There are few audiophiles who have not played Girl From Ipanema in their systems. Didn’t know it was sung by Astrud Gilberto , João’s wife.
Obituary here ..

Thanks for informing us, Moktan. A distinctive voice (nasal) and style (vibrato less) stand out when one hears João. Even his syncopated guitar plucking was different. His laid back style didn’t seem limited to music and extended to his life itself. A prodigy with almost careless attitude towards career, like say a Vinod Kambli. But to his credit he still did enough high quality work to be fondly remembered. A combination of aesthetics and emotion like only he could be. May he rest in peace.

Listening to his album ‘O Amor O Sorriso E A Flor’ (The Love, the Smile and the Flower) as a tribute.

Sad to hear the news - truly one of the greatest.
Bossa Nova is one of the most popular music styles that appeals to a wide audience.
But he will always be known for "Girl from Ipanema" - a masterpiece!

Jao Gilberto rest in peace!
