Lack of Pre Owned HiFi market

As a noob entering into the brave and exciting world of HiFi buying I have been disappointed by the lack of a mature pre owned market of Hi Fi gear in India.
By mature I mean an active, liquid, transparent and reliable trade of pre owned hi fi gear. As a banker, I know such a market always brings pricing efficiency into the brand new market as well :lol:

I am sure there is a lot of supply and demand - owners wanting to upgrade or invest in new gear can easily sell their existing gear to someone new buyer who would appreciate VFM and bargain deals on good gear over sticker shocks especially if they are just getting into the HiFi world. These "new" buyers would soon become brand-new buyers and hence increase the demand for new gear too.

However, this forum has been an excellent portal for sale of pre-owned gear. It offers buyer/seller credibility (thru strict posting req's, mods etc) and expert advice to enable a relatively "safe" trade.

I wish there were more volumes or there were other portals or market makers of used gear. It would encourage a lot of noobs to enter this beautiful world of good music and enjoy the love.

There are few shops at Chor Bazaar(Mumbai) which deals in used gear. I picked up few equipment from there and they are working without any glitch since 4 years. These people buy from users in Mumbai and re sale them. Sometimes very good component is available & if they are told @ the requirement, then they call us.

Thats a really hit and miss. There would be a fair bit of anxiety in such a buy - and its more like distress/garage sale. It would be nice to buy it from users directly bcoz in pre-owned gear, credibility is everything.

I know that there is an active market for pre-owned music instruments like guitars, violin, piano etc through some good music shops.
