Line Out cable for iPod

I have the Pioneer 3200BT head unit which is compatible with iPhone. So I directly connect the apple USB cable and hence take the digital out and it gives me the added advantage of all the playlists/albums/songs etc., to choose. The Fiio line out cable is good if the car's head unit is not compatible with the apple devices.

Did your iPod sound better from the Apple Connector, rather than the Headphone out ?

The ideal solution is to have a car unit which is compatible with an ipod interface.

Then not only can you playback and charge thru the ipod connector, but also search for songs, artists etc and playlists on yr iPod

How do you charge the phone while in the car Venkat? In my car the Apple connector is used for charging and the Headphones for Line Out.

What I use is a iPOD. We charge it well before and it works for 8-10 hours quite well. When we are in a hotel or something, we put the Ipod on charge.

We do charge our phones using micro USB in the car.

The current head unit I have is a factory fitted one and just has a 3.5 mm line-in. That is why I bought this Fiio cable. I am looking to change the head unit with a Bluapunkt NY 835. That has multiple USBs ins as well as compatibility with Apple iPhone and iPOD.

Cheers

I tried headphone out with a standard cable. This cable is far far better. I am also able to search for songs, artists etc on the iPOD.

I did not try an Apple cable, as I believe they are overpriced and not long lasting.

I am looking for an head unit that has Indian navigation built in. Only Blaupunkt seems to support that.

Even I was looking for one with navigation but unfortunately with built-in feature the head unit cost increases and almost doubles, hence decided to go with standalone. So I went with a used Garmin navigation device thru my brother in US and got the India maps from SatNav for 999/- and it is good to go. This way you can avoid the extra cost if you can get hold of a Garmin/TomTom device from US and they work perfectly in India as it has a SD card slot which you get the maps from SatNav.
Also the advantage which I felt is that you can connect the Garmin only when you require it otherwise keep it aside. The other advantage is when you hire a vehicle to travel outside rather than your own vehicle. The navigation devices sold in India especially from MayMyIndia.com is too pricey in my opinion.

From my Car audio days, I remember that Caska used to make OE drop-in replacement HUs for most cars, particularly those with double din provisions. I think they might have ones with navigation also. But they do tend to be quite expensive.

Getting a dedicated GPS device might be far more cost effective.

The Caska unit is upwards of 50K and not worth it. I am looking for Pioneer or Blaupunkt.

Must agree with Vivek above. Fiio L11 is (for the lack of any other superlative I can think of now) phenomenal. The previous setup was iPod > 3.5 mm out > t-amp > CA S30. The sound was so muddled that it made me play either from a laptops audio out or CD player. My iPod carried a lot of music and I was looking at convenience of playing music. The current setup iPod > Fiio L11 > T-amp > CA S30 solves all of the issues and I could not be more happier with the 500 bucks I spent. The soundstage is way better and the vocals are so clear. Thanks for pointing in the right direction.
