Hi,
Please guide me for a good rack for my system,as the one that I am using is not good enough. The rack should be VFM.Thanks.

thats a very generic and basic requirement. Every one wants VFM products always...

You could go for MDF board made AV racks which will act as a showpiece as well..

I am myself in the market for the same...

Best is to look for designs on line and get it made from your local carpenter under your complete supervision.

Even I'm looking for one. Knowing the quality of stuff churned out by our own Magma, I've sounded Super-mod for a group buy for which he said that they are working on that. Let's hope for the best.

wow... great.. I am in for that... but I need to know what will be the approx price of the rack... my Max budget is 7K for an all wooden (sheesham) rack... this is what I found at an old furniture market...

There are cheaper options that this available, but in poor quality wood like MDF and commercial board.

Where did you find the sheesham one? 7k is a good price for all sheesham wood rack.

@TB
Amar Colony, Lajpat Nagar. You get old furniture here. At least its not fancy and flashy as Kirti Nagar and other punju flashy furniture shops... its got pure wooden look and feel... and best part is... its made up of actual wood (even if not the best quality) better than MDF cardboard and commercial particle board...

A DIY rack will be better and cost effective. Mine is a custom made rack using teak wood. However it has only two rows but with plenty of space (I have made it before joining the forum)

Hi Magma, you're the boss... Any way to check if its pure sheesham or not?
I found it sitting in a shop ... it has 2 doors on either sides and in the center is it open (no glass) with shelves...

As far as I could check in the storeroom, it didn't seem to be made of Board wood. It was wood for sure... but then what kind I am not sure...

The doors need to have glasses fixed on them and the catchers need to be fixed. also the shelves need to be made adjustable... they are currently fixed.

As far as the info I have gathered, all the sheesham furniture comes from somewhere in Rajasthan...
There's a shop called "Sunrise Furniture Shop" in eBay.in....

you can check out the sheesham racks there... mine is something similar to what he has in the TV rack designs... 2 doors on either side and center is open/ glass paneled.

The one I saw was 57" long x 2.5 Ft high x 1.5 ft deep

Its in a 2rows by 3 columns design....

I am ok with custom made racks as well.. but I was wondering if that will in turn become expensive...
Can you share you design, cost, material etc? Is your's made in Solid wood?

today many unscrupulous guys in the antique furniture mkt are rascals.
They sell you what they call antiques that are skillfully made just to look like them by adding a powdered compound on top when in fact they have actaully made that pc last week!

normally guys in the know test the wood by checking the cross section and "smelling" it
Yes "smelling" it tells a good lot!

Your website suggests good stuff
you should know though that sheesham is quite expensive
Not only is the wood expensive ,labour work done on it also has differnt charges than doing the exact same labour using say lal puni or even teak.

dont try to make the shelves adjustable - you might loose the solidity.

forthe size you mention rajasthani carpenters would actaully charge almost that same amount as just labour ( for working with seesham)

The rack is made up of solid teak wood. We had some spare teak wood in the house, so you should consider the cost for wood also. I spent appx 2.5k as the carpenter fees and for varnishing. We gave him only the raw wood. It acts as a tv stand as well. The height is such that the TV is at eye level when watched from a chair. I will give more details with pics if possible soon.

@ ^^ Waiting for the pics...

Although yesterday I went to the same shop where I found my previous table, got it out in the open, mentioned to him all the repairs that need to be done, some holes in the rear for various shelves, making the shelves adjustable (coz else I would't have been able to move the AVR inside it, fixing new glass on the shelf doors... polishing etc...

Thankfully he agreed to change one extra plank of wood which had cranked on the rear. He agreed to change that plank.

Total cost - 7000 Rs.

Also ordered a solid Sheesham Dining table (fab India design style) for 6K from the neighbor shop. Moving them to my home should be another 800-1000 :(

Though I can't see the pics as I am at work and the pics don't get loaded here.
Although isn't it a bit too high for a Plasma TV? I assume you place the TV on top of the cabinet?
Your cabinet seems more on the squarish side, although mine is outright Rectangular.
57" breadth
18" depth
27" height.

Waiting to get my hands on it this weekend and then the wall mounts the next weekend, tired of all those wires lying all around. Need to get a cleaner setup!
