Hi,
I'm using Airtel HD DVR. I'm facing an issue for the past 2-3 days. The optical out audio volume is very low in case of most of the channels except movies now HD.The volume is good enough if I set it around 25-30 for movies now HD and but for other channels I need to keep it around 42-45 to hear it properly. The volume on TV is fine. Does anyone else facing the same issue.
My connections is as below
HD DVR --> HDMI --> TV
HD DVR --> Optica--> AVR
I tried resetting the HTIB/STB . Tried with other sources to see if my AVR has issues but it works fine. Does any one else facing this issue or am I missing something here

On most dth services the volume levels of most hd channels is lower than sd ones. Hd channels are Dolby digital ones.

Yes, the volume is low on all channels compared to Movies Now. However if I switch the sound to HDMI instead of Optical through AVR I get better sound. Still if you are using Onkyo AVR you can adjust/tweak the sound through Audio adjustment in the AVR

in 3400 and tatasky hd even at 15 i get a decent sound in 18 by 12 room.in hd channels.in sds also not low but not that good like hd
you try only hdmi use(stb to avr and avr to tv) and in onkyo 3400 keep auddesy on after manual adjust etc.lets see if that helps.ask airtel guys that whether they support DD via hdmi or not.try the remote.in tatasky there is a toggle option of DD sound via spdif/hdmi.may be in airtel also.

I would hook up everything to the AVR and then run a HDMI from the AVR to TV :

HD DVR --> HDMI --> AVR
HD DVR --> Optica--> AVR
AVR > HDMI > TV

Also if Airtel supports 5.1 audio over HDMI you do not need optical, just go with HDMI for audio/video.

I tried that already but no luck. Since Airtel doesn't support 5.1 over HDMI I need to use optical. I cannot rule out its a issue with AVR or cable since the volume is fine on Movies now but low on SD and other channels. Also this is happening only for the past 4-5 days

Optical sound was low since long,analog has better gain.HDMI PCM is sounding as before to me.

I've the exact same set up and I'm facing the exact same problem. All the channels except movies now have low volume. Has anyone tried contacting ADTV CC for this issue?

I am also facing the same problem. I have connected ADTV HD - Onkyo 3400 - Samsung LCD TV.
ADTV - 3400 thru HDMI and Optical
3400 - TV thru HDMI
Movies Now HD has better volume than Star Movies HD though both display DD in the receiver

For excellent sound that won't break the bank, the 5 Star Award Winning Wharfedale Diamond 12.1 Bookshelf Speakers is the one to consider!
