Well finally, I got stands for maggies made from a local loha-waala. The are just strips of iron bent at an angle, and two holes each to screw into the speakers.
I was thinking of adding spikes to these stands, and also build a new frame for the speaker - but hit by a buzzing, creaking sound in higher frequency of human voices. It sounds like a torn plastic sheet, a buzz - not sure how to describe, but it sounds really bad.

I found Lata's voice quite harsh on many speakers, and headphones too. All harshness gone. I don't know if it is good or bad. But I am sure if I get used to this sound, then I won't be able to listen to any other speaker :)

I am hoping with fingers crossed that this buzz/ torn plastic sound will go away after some warm up. Last time it happened, I blamed on my HK amp - but right now playing with my nad c375, which is in perfect brand new condition and I have heard with my other speakers. Hoping this is moisture/ dust/ lethargy gathered by the speakers as they were not playing. It will be a major heartbreak if these don't work.

Shouldn't this be a warranty issue? Assuming that you bought these new?

My reaction to your first post was, "something broken: see dealer."

Maan .... you indeed have patience and time at your disposal to go thru all these archived reports ...! :indifferent14:;)

I picked them used from a dealer and I must have been deaf at that time, or they developed this issue later.
Thankfully, this site suggests that the wire may have come loose from the mylar, or if there is indeed a tear, it can be fixed with a vinyl tape (which I assume is the normal tape we use).
Now I need to operate upon these speakers, just wondering how to start, and where to get the glues mentioned in these posts.

Avid - have your speakers landed?

there is a glue that 3M makes that can be used... just speak with the people at Magneplanar and they will give you the name of the glue... its a simple operation that you'll have to perform and your speakers will be good as new!

OhMyGod ... scary operation!

Still, at least you have good leads on how to proceed.

I think you need to research this a bit further. As far as I know, the tape we use for every-day stuff is not vinyl. You also need to be careful because these stationary-shop tapes use glues that variously (or at different times in their life) go all gooey or dry up and fall off

All the best. I like the idea of Magneplanar since I first heard of them (here probably). Definitely on my wish list.

I just pushed the volume on the speakers.
The buzz has got loud and now coming out of both speakers.
But they seem to be different beasts when at high volume vs low volume. At low volume they are not impressive, but I think they are loving the NAD power (pre is lyrita) and there is decent punch and reverb at slightly higher volume - listening to Kandisa. Playing via NAD CDP. Somehow I have ended up with all NAD electronics. That's good because I listened at Lakozy and liked it.

I am going to tailor new socks for them. I am thinking of white cloth - possibly with custom printing. Wondering where can I get that done.
Also once the operation goes right I will get new wooden frame and stands done for them.

you can get cloth printing done form Nehru Place... a shop called Amit Reprographics or something... I got printing done on canvas from them... the only thing is that the cloth you will use is very thin... so do check with them if printing would be possible on it...

thanks Manav!!
The cloth originally on maggies is pretty thick - like a canvas/ matte.
What did you get printed and for what purpose, if you don't mind me asking. I am gonna get some printing done for acoustic treatment as well for the room - if and when I do it.

Take your cloth to to them and compare it with the canvas they have. They have a stiff but very thin canvas. I have use it to take very large custom printouts for the sides of my LP cabinets. These cabinets are being used as room diffusers as well, so i din't go for wooden laminate. I used canvas to absorb the sound. wood veneer would reflect the sound...

I think you could use the canvas they use...

thanks Man. Will definitely give a visit to NP once I get over this saturday working thing that has hit my life for last month or so.
