Mahindra Blues Festival 2012 - who's going?

i just saw this in outlook today! i am taking a flight tomorrow morning. taj mahal is one of my favorite musicians. considering how old he is, i don't want to miss a chance to see him live.

I stay walking distance from the venue. If out-of-towners need a place to freshen up etc, please feel free to drop by. Doors are always open for Blues people:)

How did you like Day One?

Was a bit underwhelmed by Taj Mahal, perhaps due to high expectations. But JLH Jr blew me away, specially the fluid guitar play.

hey thanks for the offer. but my wife is from mumbai - so ...

on day one, it was taj who made the day for me. fishin blues, mailbox blues etc just brought out goose pimples. he is such a great musician. many people mistakenly attribute ry cooder with all that great guitar work in taj's first few albums. but the real guitarist was the late great jessie ed davis - a native (kiowa) american - who is truly one of the most underrated guitar heroes in rock history. i really missed his solo in mailbox blues.

on day two, i was impressed with anna popovich. her rendering of buddy guy's 'one room country shack' was truly amazing. she was able to retain much of the original feel, but still was able to give out her own uniqueness. i was totally engaged throughout her set.

buddy guy was disappointing. due to his age he has lost the coordination between his hands and so kinda makes up for it with his current cut and slash soloing style which is in truth cacophonic!

but my trip was worth it for both taj and anna.

I have seen Buddy Guy a few times before, and was expecting more of the same. But his 'current cut and slash soloing style' nearly fused my bulb. Still recovering:). And Tips from Soulmate continues to give me hope for Indian bands to break out into the world stage.

Overall a great weekend!
