This is a genre not too popular with folks these days in India. Some fantastic music composed, played and sung here by probably one of the finest in their art. This genre is also categorised as popular music.

So much of mainstream jazz music is a detivative of songs/themes from this genre.

Hoping to find some folks who share a similar bent towards this genre.

Some fine examples would be:
1) King and I
2) My Fair Lady
3) Carousel
3) Miss Saigon
4) Les Miserables
5) Evita
6) Sunset Boulevard
7) Once on this Island

….and the list goes on.

Hey Manek, nice thread and good to see you back.

My favourite shows to add to what you have already put in.
  • Joseph And The Technicolor Dreamcoat
  • Jesus christ superstar
Of course most of Andrew lloyd webber compositions like Phantom of the opera, startlight express and so many other singles.

In Movies from what I can remember
  • Thomas crown affair ( windmills of your mind is lovely)
  • Saturday night fever
  • Gladiator
  • Elizabeth the golden age
  • Passion, the last temptation of christ ..music by peter gabriel .
Again there are many more like the guardians of the dynasty soundtrack and endless love etc.

Hi there.

Finally !

JCS - I dont know how to love him. Three singers who Cracked the code for this song were Joanna Ampil, Sara Bareilles, Yvonne Elliman(of the SNF fame).

Windmills of your mind.

The good part of todays Broadway and West End musicals is the quality of singers. Live on stage. No fancy electronic aids. They do 6-7 shows a week and for months on end.

If you really want to hear some awesome vocals :

Do send me some of the stuff you find thats great to hear.
