Can someone tell me what is the 'EQ' dial on this subwoofer? This is Astonia DF10 which I bought last week. I am aware of the volume/crossover/phase, but I am not aware of the EQ button. I have kept it as 12o'clock right now.

Kneo,
Isn't there an user manual with the product? On an another note, how do you find the performance of this sub? Is the bass fast and tight? Is it equally
good with music and movies?

The product came with a single printed paper which had the back panel printed on it along with the various connections that one can use :)
Here's what the manufacturer has to say about it though 'To adjust the eq settings. For a boost in the frequency band. Keep at 12 o clock for flat response.' But I am still not sure how this is different from the volume knob.

As far as feedback goes, this is the first time that I am 'experiencing' a sub in my setup, so I don't have a reference to compare it against. I have not checked out lot of movies yet, but whatever I've seen, I seem to enjoy the sub's output but that may be because it's my first active sub. I've not even experimented with the placement and the current position of the sub is dictated by the aesthetics of the living room and convenience. It's against a wall though but since my living room is L shaped with a few open doors, I am not sure whether I am extracting the best out of it. Feel free to drop in on weekends if you want to check it out when you're in this side of town (I stay at Vikhroli)

Not sure if this will help you but, I own a Wharf SW150 and the only controls I have at the back are
1. Volume - which can be adjusted based on your liking/room.

2. frequency - basically at which frequency would you want the sub to kick in. This can also be set in the AVR and I keep the AVR cutout below the sub -cutout e.g. Sub is set at 80 and AVR is at 60.

Thanks avink, but I am confused about the EQ dial and not the volume and crossover frequency. Any idea about that?

It seems to be a 1 band Parametric EQ.
However the image is a little too small for me to see

If your room has certain bump or null at bass frequencies. You can use the EQ to either tone down or bump up the output at a particular frequency

This is completely room dependent.
You will have to run test tones. Either use a SPL meter or by ear. Play tones from 30 hz to the cut off frequency you have set on the sub. and fine tune

If you feel there is a bump at the 45hz region and it plays louder than the other frequencies you can tone it down -12 to +12 db depending on the in room curve
.

It's a bit confusing to understand. Theoretically, if I tone down the 45Hz frequency would that not tone down all other freq between 30-120hz too?

PS - I am still enjoying the sub. I am just curious to understand a bit more about this EQ dial :)

Yes ... you are correct .. However the problem with the EQ that Astonia has provided would work in conjunction with the Cut off filter.
for example if the Cut off filter has been sent to 100hz you can use it only for that particular freq and not others. However not very handy if your room plays havoc at let say 40 hz and you crossover freq is set at 120hz

But then again for the money the Astonia is a a pretty good sub and this is def not a deal breaker

Ideally a Parametric EQ should be like the image below

This is from a Plate amp for a Sub in the 100k rupee region
