Hi,
I'm not sure if this is the right place to be posting this.
I reside in Chennai and will be shifting to a new house by Pongal i.e. mid-jan next year. I would like to purchase a new tv and relegate my current 32" samsung series 5 led to the bedroom.

From reading various posts on this forum, I have come to the conclusion that an LED TV may be the best choice because:
1. It will be used quite heavily
2. The room in which the TV will be placed is well lit
3. I am worried about screen burn even though it does not appear to be a major issue with the 2012 models

I have shortlisted the following: Samsung ES8000 55", Sony HX850 55", and LG Cinema Screen 7600 47. At this point in time, I am more inclined to go for the LG given the price and freebies on offer. However, I will be demoing all the above models and more, and will also be going through other threads discussing these models before making a decision.
Please advise if the track I am on is correct, or if I should be doing/considering something else.

Second, given that I will be needing the TV only when I shift my house, which will be in mid-Jan, would you recommend that I purchase the TV then, or that I should make the most of the diwali offers. I am not sure if the prices would reduce further by then, or if the Pongal offers will be equally good. Please advise on this as well.

Also, please do recommend some good stores from getting a demo of the TVs. I am thinking of Viveks Adyar and Croma Mount Road.

Appreciate your input. Thanks, and Happy Diwali!:)

First, the models that you have picked up are too good. As you said, the best thing that you will be doing is doing the demo and trusting your eyes to choose what looks best for you. So doing the demo should be your first priority.

Second, please don't decide your model just because you get more freebies for that model. I understand money/budget is the most important for any budget conscious person, but at the same time. look for picture quality (in your demo) rather than looking at the freebies. So select the model which is cost effective and as well as offers good picture quality for the money that you pay.

Third, you can read the reviews of all the three models that you mentioned. There are lots of reviews on these models. Again, these reviews should only be secondary in your decison making and the most important is doing the demo.

Samsing ES8000 and Sony HX850 are both good models. You won't regret buying any of these two TVs and both are almost equal when it comes to picture quality. How do they fare against LG7600 ? Here is just a simple comparison.

-ES8000/HX850 has better black levels/contrast ratio and so the PQ will have some pop/excitment/depth compared to LG7600. It doesn't mean that LG7600 is bad, but only on a side-by-side comparison, you might see a slight difference with ES8000/HX850. So you need to do demo and see what your eyes tell rather than someone like me suggesting things.
- LG7600 has excellent off-angle viewing. That is, LED-LCD TVs do suffer from PQ when you move away from the centre of screen. LG7600 is very good compared to ES8000/HX850.

I am adding a cavet. What ever you choose (between ES8000/HX850/LG7600), they all provide very good Picture quality. SOme times the reviews might confuse and so I repeat - do the demo and trust your eyes. Of course you can be equipped with some additional details that you get from reviews before going for demo.

Regarding the time of purchasing, it would be better to buy your TV once you shift to your new house. I don't think you will loose too much between Diwali and Pongal offer. There is a very good possiility for the price to reduce as well between Diwali and Pongal.
Wish you a happy Diwali !!!

:D I don't have a proper answer for that. I just felt that with LG being a tad inferior in quality, it may not "upscale"? well on the 55. Your thoughts?

Hx850 will be the best of the lot but it is not that LG is inferior. Demo all and then select. If you are considering 3D performance then you will be happy with LG.

Here is my observations on my LG set.

I do not think LG is inferior. It is best looking TV with decent PQ but has a glossy screen. It is cheaper too than the two.

For me Sony did not look impressive and least value for money. Samy has got good PQ bit better than LG but still more expensive.
For me, Sammy had the best PQ.

All the three are edge lit so PQ is average, bleeding still exists.
Sony HX950 is the only full array and has best PQ but too expensive.

So for me, it all boiled down to money.
LG offered tremendous value, it changes how the living room looks. I get many complements on the TV.

nothing comes with HX850.........its a blind choice.
but still its me....try your eyes with all and take what is best looking to you...
