Hello All,
Being strictly on a Shoe string budget for speaker i ended up buying a pair of Onkyo SKS-4700 surround speaker package. It Retailed for around Rs 4500 (thought MRP was Rs 9500/-) per set, which included Center speaker + 2 rear surrounds, @ Futurebazaar.com (2009) As the price seemed very attractive to me and when i saw the specifications of Center speaker (SKC-4700) online , i thought if we use this in "vertical mode" we can use the same as bookshelf speakers and being a Onkyo it will be great. So i bought 2 set of SKS-4700 from Future Bazaar. I was very excited for my this purchase , for it was my first (and last
Hi-Fi speaker (yes. it is so for me) and Onkyo brand always made me crazy. The first listening experience was really good, i used Pace 2040 stereo Amp + Panasonic portable CD Player + 2 x SKC 4700, I am a Bass head but for the first time i listened and understood the sweetness of High frequencies. This speaker is not capable of bass. Though the manual says frequency range as 60 Hz to 50 Khz.
This was the brief history of my SKC-4700, so now it has been 3 years since i bought these speakers. And always at one point of time i have felt like opening my electronics, whether i understand the internals or not ;-).
I mainly opened up to see the speakers of Onkyo SKC-4700 and crossover. which the manual claims as 2.4 / 2.6 Khz (do not remember).
So one fine Saturday / Sunday (07 / 08 - July - 2012) i thought of opening this Onkyo SKC-4700 speaker, and after analyzing it a little i sat down to open. After a small attempt i discovered how the screws are concealed and opened it up finally. BUT to my SHOCK  there was NO Crossover at all. I never expected this from Onkyo, only one capacitor for Tweeter. and no xover for mid woofers. These are 4Ohm mid/woofers parallel connected to make them 8Ohms. This made me Feel "on speaker front Onkyo has gone too much commercial." Though the speakers are of good quality sound wise. but MRP wise it costed back then Rs 9.5K and still no crossover. Or is it so that crossover for Woofer is not mandatory ??? if it is of right technical specification. Please give your views on not using Crossover for speaker by Onkyo.
Thank you
