Hello. Today i've been pulling my hair out in frustration as i cannot find a solution or a reason why it is not solvable to get audio going from a pc through this receiver and out to a set of speakers.

I have just bought this thing used and want to be certain i didn't get a wonky unit.

I apologize beforehand for this quite lengthy post.

Neither of my two laptops will detect it as a video+audio output, this is both under Win10 and Linux, and yes i do dualboot these. (if it would matter, both have nvidia graphics, of different generations)

My desktop is running Linux and when using my 9070xt i see no way to put out audio over hdmi
When i swap my previous gpu, a gtx1080 back in, i only have the option of "Pro Audio" which is wrong.
Even win11 on a spare SSD with the AMD/Nvidia drivers installed "cannot see" the receiver as "audio-capable"

I get a good picture out, but that's it. I can't access every setting on this thing without the OSD which never shows, regardless what i hook up to the HDMI output port of the receiver.

According to the manual the unit should be able to take in hdmi audio and decode it or return it (ARC) but regardless if ARC is enabled or not, shouldn't it be seen as an audio+video output device?

And what about the OSD?
Yes, i've tried first pressing "receiver" on the remote then "setup" like described in the manual but all i get is the limited menu on the Onkyo's front panel.
I don't know if some of the settings only available under the OSD would explain this as i can't check them.

Do i have a dud?

A beautiful, well-constructed speaker with class-leading soundstage, imaging and bass that is fast, deep, and precise.
