Hi,

There is a chance that I may have to travel for work to US for a week. I am thinking of buying Arcam rDAC (or) Emotiva DAC and probably a Bluray player.
Oppo is out of question as it's not region free for DVDs and BDP ( not sure if I can get modkit). I was thinking of sherwood BDP that's region free and multivoltage.

Can someone suggest the store in SanJose where I can find these ? (or) good online site that sells this and that can ship within a week
(The travel could be end of this month)

Also, are there any other suggestion ? i.e. anything cheaper in US - ofcourse it should be dual voltage - I guess arcam, emotiva will work in India without any converter.

For Arcam, go to their site and look for dealers. For Emotiva, you can buy it online only. For Sherwood go to WalMart or to Frys. I am not sure of Best Buy is alive any more.

Cheers

When I had visited the US last year, I went to Fremont to shop at Walmart and Bestbuy as there is none in SFO. Try B&H Photo Video Digital Cameras, Photography, Camcorders
they are one of the reputed stores in the US but i guess they dont have a store in the westcoast- please do a search.

Looking up Arcam website, it shows Magnolia AV as its dealer. IIRC, Best Buy bought Magnolia. I think there is one in Stevens Creek Blvd. You can look it up once you are there. If you want other brands, you can check out Century Stereo. I don't remember the address but I think it is somewhere around Stevens Creek Blvd.
There used to be a store called San Francisco Stereo on El Camino Real in Mountain View. Both Century and SF Stereo provide very good service. Fry's is a good place for everything except serious audio components. You can always check it out at other places and go to Fry's to buy them. Don't expect anything remotely close to customer service. It is more of a self service store.
I think emotiva is sold only online. Good luck.
Good luck.

If you are hitting stevens creek blvd, do not miss Cohiba cigars..nice place for smoke and hangout. Also, you ought to spend some weekend evenings in Santana Row. And you have many shopping centers and malls around there. You'll remember that evening forever. Good luck brother.

AFAIK, the Sherwood is not available at Walmart, Frys or Bestbuy.
It used to be carried by Target, but not anymore (I think).

One of region-free options is the Best-buy's Insignia NS-BRDVD4 ,
but they are discontinuing that player.
As per the Best Buy site, it's still in stock at the
Santana Row store, so you can pick it up and still do
the Cohiba and other cool stuff on Stevens Creek.

Sales tax is quite high in California. It will setyou back quite a bit if you are making a high value purchase. So, if u can ask any of your friends/ relatives who live in a state that charges lower rate of tax (some websites don't charge sales tax for sales outside their state), you would save some money.

Oppo is dual voltage too - it works on any voltage between 110 to 240 v. Conversion kits are very easy to find & easy to install (requires no tools or soldering)

hope this helps

One advice regarding sherwood - check it thoroughly for faults if any. Play different disks like blu-ray, dvd etc. One of our forum member is having a lot of problem with the sherwood model. I have sherwood but haven't experienced any problems so far.
