Hi,

I bought Yamaha V667 receiver. It has capacity of 90W per channel.
I planned to purchase speakers step by step and the total budget for complete 5.1 speaker is 50K.

I will be using the audio unit for 60% music and 40% movies.

I found Polk speakers are good everywhere in the reviews.

Now my request is that please list out the models and price for each set of speakers - front speakers, sorround speakers, center and subwoofer.

And also please list out the shops in Bangalore to buy them.

Thanks,
Sakitram

How much did you buy the V667 for?
It is out of stock here in Mumbai (Official Yamah dealer). But he said the price would be around 40K as and when its in stock.

Please instead of telling me that visit the shop - audition - buy,
suggest me the model that satisfies the following criteria
- speaker that does not miss any note/tone to sound
- suitable for my AVR
- suitable for 60% music and 40% movies
- falls under the budget 50K for complete HT set

I believe that any answer to the above, that model will be satisfying me.
If I suppose go to shop for audition, it is highly possible the following any of the things
- takes longer hours to listen to all kind of music, shop keep will not also have that much patient otherwise he should be well known to us
- while auditioning for some music some speaker seems to be good but it might be failing to sound good overall when our day to day use
- even the shop might not have some models in hand and convince us to choose one of the models that they do have
- and the last but not least is that, in my lifetime I have not heard any sound of these specialized brands for speakers so far - such as Polk/Warfedale/Paradigm/B&W/Jamo/etc... so I might be choosing blindly that sounds good at that time

That's why I believe in you and request for a good model with price tag.
So please suggest one.

Thanks,
Sakitram

Hi Sakitram,

Even i am looking for the same. I have posted couple of times but did not get any suggestion. :-(

I auditioned Tsi400, i found it good. but since i did not audition Tsi300 so i am not sure whther i shud go for 400 or 300. i assume the difference between these will be low bass only. but now sure....

Auditioned Yamaha 8900.....found good initially but after listening to Polk.. i am not thinkin about yamaha 8900...

Sakitram, I will repeat what HTuser said. Despite your valid points, I'd still suggest you go audition them and then buy. No need to audition all possible speakers. Go to 3-4 shops, and audition whatever they have. I'm sure you'd be able to find something that suits your tastes. If you're not too particular, buy any one of these brands (Polk, Wharfedale, MS, Mission, Q-Accoustics, etc) and you will not be disappointed, since these are all good entry level brands.

Hi Harty n all,

I am really surprised and thinking the purpose of this forum?

If i need to go to shops and listen to all type of devices then why i need to post it here??? Every body is just saying one thing... go n listen....i believe people post their queries to get feedback or checklist kinda guidance before buying any device...

i am quite an old member of team-bhp. I joined this site so that i can get better and clear feedback from so called Guru's in this forum, about what i am thinking or planning...but i got better replies from team-bhp which is not meant for home-theaters kind of stuff....

anyways....lesson learned...

Thanks

@sakitram - I totally understand your agony.
I don't know who started it all " go audition yourself" reply on this forum.

Well i am in the same need as you for the past 3 months now, thanks to my busy schedule and the limited budget.

I guess if you have made up your mind with POLK, i suggest

RTi series- BEST OPTION.

RTI A5
CSi A4
FXi A4
PW 110

(OR)

TSi 300/400
CSi10
OWM3
S110

You can mix and match.
Front and center should match so get it from the same company, series...
Surrounds depends on your listening.
Sub is completely your choice of power, etc.

Hope it was some help.

You even try the HT packages of polk

I started my audiion from Polk and almost decided for wharfedale and after listening to Monitor audio, immediately finalized MA. Suggestion, listen some brands and i am sure you will increase your budget for better speakers.

"One man's meat is another man's poison"

You basically want to someone to do your homework for you, is it??? One can only tell you about what are the good speakers in their opinion that fits your budget and other constraints. You should still go and listen to them before plonking down your money. What if I tell you speaker xyz is the best around and after you buy it, you hate it, would you hold me responsible??? Why are you 'auditioning' this forum when you already got better advice elsewhere...is it not the same as checking out speakers in different places???

Having said that, consider a few other parameters - room size, choice of music, choice of movies and space in the room.

50K for a 5.1 setup may not do justice to 667. You could consider sats if your room is small. Another option is to stagger your purchase...buy front and center right now and go for surrounds and sub later. You'd also need to budget for cables and stands in case you go for bookshelves.

I personally would not recommend Polk. I've always found them bright and harsh. Would give you an earache...RTi4 is the only one I liked a bit. Check out QAcoustics, they are good VFM. Mission MV series would also be a good option. Paradigm also has small speakers set that fit your budget.

If you could share some more info on your room and music/movie choice, you might get some more suggestions here.

Chill man....as you said " One can only tell you about what are the good speakers in their opinion that fits your budget and other constraints."

dats what i expect from senior and experienced fellows here. I did not get even a single reply whats good or whats not .....

I dont think people are posting here because they don't want to do the hardwork...posting here n there, getting info, planning accordingly.. is the hard work.. which of course I'll do.

you just tell me whats "xyz" and where to audition dat... you might say its best. I'll simply honor your advice and will go n audition it. rest is my job....i'll be simply thankful to you for sharing your thoughts and experience.... :)

the reason for me to be here is to get people feedback/guidance and options to hear and from where i can audition and get good prices.....its simple......

well....budget is always a constraint for all of us... u might spend 4 lac on a single sub. and i am sure that somebody else will say that you are not doing justice to 4 lac sub by using 667 or vice-versa. Its never ending.....

i can spend only 50k....and i really want VFM product. which can handle 90w from 667 gracefully...as simple as that......... :)

Thanks
Amar

Well said Amar.

Soulforged, do not worry.. We are just listening to your advice and by this way list out the suggested speakers. Because there are around 10 brands and lot of models are there. So if we listen to them one by one, it will take many days to audition and to finalize one. So if we advised with the list, we'll audition them one by one and finalize one among them according to our taste.

So far I am with this list - Polk RTI4 or Wharfedale 9.5 or Q Acoustics 2010/20.

So feel free to give advice. Even if we are disappointed with it, we'll not blame you instead we will share our experience for others to consider something better one.

I believe that Yamaha V667, it is more than one year old since release. So I believe, at least few our the HIFI member should be having this AVR and very much satisfied with their speakers.

Anyway, thanks to everyone.

Hi Sakitram,

Did you narrow down to any brand? I auditioned Wharfedale 9.5 today. I found them better than polk.

what price you are getting there? I can pm my offer for Wharfedale.

Thanks
Amar

I auditioned MS Aviano1 series, Cambridge Audio (both with Marantz) and Q Acoustics (with V667). Now I have settled for QAcoustics 2020 for the fronts and 2010s for the rear (thanks to HFV Group buy). Since I spent separately for a sub (Velodyne Impact 12 - QA2070 sub has a good rate of failure as per internet folks), I was short of money for the Center :). So right now it is going to be 4.1 only. I have received the sub and waiting for the others to reach me (hopefully by Mon / Tuesday) :licklips:

Hi Amar,

I have not auditioned anything now.
But I see that most people satisfied with the combination of Yamaha receivers (generally) with Wharfedale speakers. But I see that Wharfedale Diamond speakers are just having 6 ohms, but our 667 receivers produce 8 ohms (though, it can be configured to 6 ohm). But with Polk RTI A5, I see 8 ohms. So I am just thinking whether I shall ignore the 8 ohms and go with 6 ohms Wharfedale by losing huge sound or it is worth to invest more for 8 ohm speakers.

Anybody please suggest on this.

Thanks,
Sakitram

The 'ohms' is nothing but the impedance rating of the speaker, and what the receiver stats is the power produced at a particular impedance rating of the speaker. The lower the impedance rating of the speaker, the more current it will draw from the amplifier, and the amp in turn would have to use more power.
Both 6 and 8 ohm should be ok with your amp.

I believe that both Wharfedale and Q Accoustics is very suitable as I messages so everywhere. But I think KEF could be expensive than the other and will be beyond my budget.

Kindly please suggest the brand along with the Model name and the price as well.
Even the shop name if possible.

Do check out Cambridge Audio's Sirocco if you haven't already. One of the best bang for the buck speakers around. SL30 is a bit hard to find but if you are lucky, don't miss them...

If you are looking for bookshelves, do think of solid stands, at least for the fronts...

Also, share additional info like what I have mentioned in my prev post...would help in narrowing down the speaker choices...
