You might be able to find in smaller sizes for much less. Just make sure the sheets aren't too thick. 10mm or less will give you a nice and tight roll.

You’d risk spoiling the tonality and dynamics. Try with socks first and see how it feels. Those ports are there for a reason and an integral part of the design.

I would start by shoving a hand full of straws in there. Never liked bungs on my speakers.
Shoved up the socks. Tonal quality deteriorated. Lesson learnt. Don't fiddle with the orginal design. Give them space to breathe.
You don't want to use anything that is too thick. Speaker companies usually provide sponge bungs for the job but for DIY I would suggest trying rolled up hand towels. You need to keep them loosely rolled so as to have some sort of breathing possible. You could also experiment with placement of the towels in the port i.e. slightly loose instead of full port blocking etc.

They dont block the port completely and so balance out the mids and bass.

I needed to place speakers near the wall. Used thickish sofa foam cut in rounds to good effect
