So I was driving back from Florida and since it's a 14 hour drive, we decided to take a restroom break and stretch our legs a bit. I stopped at this gas station which was right next to an antique store. Decided to take a lookey look just on a whim.

Though most stuff was non-interesting (well maybe not everything, I was really interested in buying a civil war era black powder long rifle!), so I am on my way out and something catches my eye! Low and behold there lies a near mint condition McIntosh MC250 solid state amp. These were the first solid state amp that McIntosh produced!!

So I contain my excitement and walk up to the counter. Asked how much he wanted for the stereo (that's what he had labeled it!!). He said 300 bucks. The Indian in me came to life and I started haggling with him. After a lot of back and forth and me nearly walking out of it, we agreed on 125 bucks. Now, mind you I had not even tested that the thing works but for 125 bucks I was willing to take the chance.

So anyway long story short, the amp works great though given its age, it's needs to be recapped which would cost me another 200 bucks with parts and labor.

So now I am looking for a preamp recommendation for the same. Anyone have one of these vintage amps? Any recommendation for which preamp to buy?
