Well its not going to be HD its HD like.
Its for sure going to be upscaled.so let me see if it makes a difference,i believe its going to be updated midnight tonight.
I couldn't notice any difference between the star plus HD(upscaled) vs the normal,so i am not sure how much will this latest move make ,unless one has a crappy tv..

Yes, atleast they are not calling these channels as "HD", End to End HD, etc. So it seems they are not committing a scam like Dish FRAUD HD. A very good move I must say if it really works. I still feel they should broadcast in original SD and let their STB do the job of upscaling to 1080i.

They have mentioned "cutting- edge technology that enables up-scaling". Atleast they are honest unlike DISH TV.

Do we have a lawyer amongst us? It's about time this matter was taken to court. It is pointless waiting for TRAI to do something about this.

well their facebook page says 250HD channels not 250 " HD like" channels.

If they dont charge anything then i dont care if they call them 250 3d channels

Both dish and rdtv engineers will be nominated for this years nobel price in physics for this remarkable invention

"HD like","Up-scaled" is what they are saying on their site and for that they have my respect.

If they don't charge extra and improve picture quality, I don't think that I will be complaining.

Ok, I just saw this.

"Reliance Digital TV HD Set Top-Box uses cutting edge technology to up-scale the existing video resolution to 1080p at 50 Hz, popularly known as Full HD, by enlarging and digitally processing the video 10 times."

I hope they don't mean that we need to change our existing boxes. Will call them later to clarify.

They also claim that it will be in 16:9 mode,i hope they get a 16:9 videp feed directly from the broadcaster.

So far no update has happened in my HD-DVR,looks it will need a software upadate in order to give it in "1080p".Since currently the only option available is 1080i.

Read this in Economic Times news today ... a quote from Reliance Digital CEO
"This technology will enable upscaling an existing video resolution into HD quality by enlarging and digitally processing the same 10 times over"

Clearly he is trying to create a hype by cleverly avoiding claiming that Reliance is going to broadcast real HD conent. Also he is silent about aspect ratio.... so technically we can't charge Reliance with fraud .. but, for the general Tv watching population of this nation the perception will be that reliance is going to provide 250 HD channel.. which is a pity.

Upscaled SD channels are not "significantly better" than the original SD PQ/AQ and ofcourse the images are all streched out and deformed...so I am not sure if once can claim that you are improving the "resolution" of original content by upscaling...

a program recorded in sd will and always remain sd; no matter what upscaling technology they will employ, if they convert sd (4:3) into 16:9, the picture will feel stretched... they will just sharpen it a bit thats all, i presume...

If you read yahoo news the Reliance CEO says
In terms of content, there are not more than 10 channels including Discovery, Nat Geo, Movies Now and four Star Network channels currently HD in India, he said.

"Our attempt is to provide high quality feed even for those channels which are not HD so far in terms of content," Behl added.

^^

they dont have those ten real hd channels which is available.

Now the rdtv website says, the hd stb will upscale to 1080p.
the much costlier TV set will have a better upscaler than the 2500rs hd box.
Anyway this is not new, when they launched hd dvr last year the cc was insisting every channel is hd if you buy hd dvr.

just marketing gimmick to confuse the people who is not aware of these things

Hmm we are already getting all channels in 1080i in HD-DVR.

Other than the valid points made with regard to better upscaling by TV or Receiver rather than STB / stretching of image etc, I think that this is Reliance Digital's, comeback to Dish's 30 odd HD channels. Look to me like they are saying 'Hey, if you can upscale 30 and call it HD, we can upscale all and call it 'Like HD'. Maybe, they are trying to make a point, maybe. For whatever it is, I think the users will now be better informed with regard to the differences between HD and upscaled.

Really? i have to check this when i go home tonight.

HD-DVR never had the option of switching the resolution ,so irrespictive of channels native resolution all the channels were upscaled to 1080i by the STB.

Now reliance claims its STB will give them in 1080p ,which i believe requires a software update.

if thats the case then i guess this change happened a few months ago when reliance changed their menu a couple of months ago and thats why there was slight improvement in picture quality
