Hello All,

I am considering putting together a home theatre system in my living room which is pretty small. I am not an audiophile. My primary usage is for music, watching live sports events and an occasional movie. I do not like to increase the volume in anything I listen to. I prefer a low volume setting with clear audio.
I was suggested a 5.1.2 system with the Bower and Wilkins MT-50 and a Marantz Cinema 60 AVR. I do not have a clue if this is good enough for my requirement or if there are any alternatives that I need to listen to before finalizing on this. Request your inputs/suggestions.

Please, please do not start with 8 speakers in your already small living space.
Get the receiver and get two nice floor stand loudspeakers. Spend a month or two with it and then ask yourself if you need more speakers. At the very least, maybe a nice sub will do, for what you want out of it.

Thank you for your input. My living space is about 13' x 14'. I assumed that would be large enough for a 5.1.2. Do you think that there is not enough space for staging between the speakers? The B&W speakers looks small and unobtrusive as well so hoping they dont make the space look cluttered.

If you don't mind missing on the clarity of dialogues to a certain extent, then an integrated amp with decent power around 80 to 100 watts at 8 ohms with a pair of tower speakers which are easy to drive depending on room size and budget should suffice since music is your priority and not movies.
If your room is small, then a pair of small speakers like Qaccoustics 3020i, Dali Oberon 1 or 3 or smiliar bookshelf speakers with a nice 12 inch subwoofer(the amp should have a subwoofer out or the sub should have a high level connection) should suffice.
If possible pls audition the amplifier with the speakers before buying and make them play music as well as your sports channel too so you know what to expect. Marantz receivers are pretty decent too for music if you can demo and compare with a similar budget integrated amp.

If your primary usage is music & live sports events a 5.1 or higher setup will be a waste & a stereo setup will sound better too. You are better off getting a stereo receiver & a 2 ch FS .

Will be good to give some details like actual size of the room , layout and budget

My room size is 13' x 14'. Budget is 5L. Many are suggesting the same (stereo option). I will consider this as an option. Thank you for your suggestions.
