A couple of weeks back, I saw Revel Concerta in the JBL/Harman showroom in Phoenix Marketcity. They were still in the cartons they came in, the showroom owner (I am assuming) mentioned that they are in the process of setting it up for demo. Haven't had a chance to go back since then, but if someone is looking for a serious speaker for their HT setup, do consider them. I've never heard them but read a lot about how good they sound...

Couple of Qs though...
What kind of price range would they fall in??? (did not ask but I guess they would set you back by a couple of lacs)
How would they be for 2-channel???

Revel Concerta F12 are priced at 1.15L a pair and they are very good with Music as well as movies. Their 5.1 setup which comprises of following speakers:

Fronts : F-12
Center - C12
Surround S12
Sub: B120

Total package pricing:3.15 L and will be sufficient to fill a fairly large size of room with both Music and movies.

Thanks Ashish & Flash...

Would want to check them out as well as the Ultima's...will post my impressions when I do...

On a side note, I often hear/read about speakers being great for HT or for a 2-ch setup...wonder what characteristics are used to bucket them thus???

The Revel Salons are monsters! Size wise that is & would do justice in a big room, considering their price! Have seen them in the Lakozy showroom in mumbai as part of an HT set-up, but never bothered to ask for a demo since A)Am not looking for an HT set-up at the moment & B) I am not having that kind of rapport with the good folk @ La kozy either to indulge me for the same.
An FM has them as part of his 2channel set-up, dunno if they are Salon or salon2's, hopefully will make a trip to his place to hear them soon, if he allows me to come over that is :D

Revel Ultima Salon are some of the best speakers there is (at sane prices). Both the Salons (original and 2s) will eventually earn a classic status in due course of time. However people with small spaces need not apply. They look and work like monsters.

I can put my hand up and say I had the Revel Ultima Salons (the original ones) in black with light grey side panels (or were they aluminium) ....they looked a million bucks. Also had the sub - I think it was called the Gem. The sub stayed with me a long while - it was lightning fast and very powerful. But the speakers were very analytical and a little on the cold side for my taste. I'm trying to rack my brains on which amp they were paired with - I am sure something solid state....as well as a huge Rogue Audio KT88 monster. They also needed a really large room to sing. Strangely, I think the set up would make for a very good and visceral HT system...

I agree with that observation. Speakers at that level are easy to come across as analytical if any of the partnering equipments is not complementing it well. Once partnered well and dialed in fully they deliver a very rewarding musical experience.

I recently had a change to meet the Revel designer Kevin at his home at LA, he has a fantastic room in his house which can easily seat some 20 people and enjoy his creation. He gave us a great insight about them and how they meant to sound with different amplification. Revel Ultima Salon 2 are fantastic speakers but really difficult to drive so they were paired with a Mark Levinson No. 532 Amplifier for all kinds of listening and they sang well beyond expectation, they require a largish room to perform well and India retailing around 20L mark. Whereas the speaker which interested me the most was Revel Performa3- F208 which they have developed after F-52 but at a better price and it uses a lot of technologies which is also used in Ultima Salon 2 and at the price point of 3.85L it does a much better job in comparison with likes of B&W N-800 Series speakers and ML speakers in a Blind listening test.

Visited the JBL showroom in Phoenix Mall yesterday and auditioned Revel F12...(The F12 is a full-range, three-way speaker, featuring dual eight-inch bass drivers coupled with a single five-and-one-quarter-inch midrange driver and a one-inch dome tweeter, sensitivity of 90.5dB @ six-ohms... My initial impression - Excellent speakers with solid bass, crystal clear clarity.... Sounded really good considering the fact that the dealer was driving the speakers with the latest AVR offered by HK and using flac files... Heard MJ, Eagles and Andrea Bocelli - couldnt stay back for long as the family was out shopping in the mall and were calling me consistently... Didnt quite fancy the black finish... Dealer quoted 1.25 lacs with no bargainging on account of exchange rates but I didnt push either.. Over all was impressed with the speakers and I am sure they will sound much better with a dedicated setero set up... The showroom is rather small and has space constraints which has compelled the dealer to for place a sub which is clearly obstructing the right floor stander

Yes ProFx has started selling Cabasse.... they have on display floor standing starting at 80K in Phoenix mall showroom and the higher end models at their double road show room which can be auditioned with prior appointment

Wow! retail US price is $22k (13.6 lac at Rs 62fx), so the indian price is almost 50% more.
Cheers,

Okay...I visited the JBL showroom in Phoenix on Sunday with another friend (Thatguy). The folks at the place were very courteous and cooperative. They patiently played all our songs as we kept moving around the listening area like cats on a hot tin roof.

The audition was severly hampered by the setup. It is a super-small space with Glass/open space on one side. The speakers were kept too close to the back wall causing the bass to get too boomy and muddy. We moved them up a bit and toed them in, this brought in some control to the low end but left us with just around 4-5 feet of listening distance. We continued with our session nonetheless.

One thing I observed was clear mids. The vocals were dead center and mid-bass were very well articulated. The highs were not sharp. The shimmers felt very gentle and decayed beautifully.

The sound stage was pretty narrow and not very deep. The lower end of bass was still a bit overwhelming and lingered a bit longer. Though moving them up did help but they were still muddy and some frequencies were all but lost. I would not attribute this to the speakers at all but to the room entirely. Remember, the F12s go down really low (around 28Hz IIRC).

We also heard a tall JBL (Studio 590) for a little while. What really stood out was the vocal clarity and projection, they were so spot on that I had to double check if the centers were actually not operational (initially they were). The overall sound, especailly the bass was a bit recessed. The soundstage seemed a bit too deep in the center. The mids were crisp but bass had very little articulation. This again must be due to the room.

I would want to hear the F12s one more time in a more conducive setup. The nice folks at the showroom offered to bring them out of the small demo area and play them in the main display area. This may help a bit though not sure how much considering there'd be glass at the back and the front. There used to be a JBL dealer on Lavelle Road, I don't have the contact, need to google more vigorously. If nothing, might make a trip to Decibel in Chennai.

Hi All

I am the owner of the Harman Store at Phoenix Marketcity Mall.

Firstly I would like to thank everyone here who has visited our store and gave a feedback . We want to keep things as comfortable as possible at the store and yes we are working on moving the outlet within the mall to a bigger space. Our motto is to give as much freedom to the client as possible to audition as everyone has a different way of listening to speakers.

I would request you guys to check out the JBL LS 80 which are also at the showroom.

We also have some discounts running till the 4th of November on revel and Jbl.

Thanks and wishing e everyone a very happy Diwali in advance

When I went to listen those speakers,I also feel bass is heavy ,after checking avr setting,The dealers has increased the vocals and bass tone settings, bcz of it I feel bass is heavy. need to check with some other amp.

We are getting the Revel Performa 3 (206) soon at our phoenix mall outlet. Please let me know if anyone is interested in taking a demo.

All this exchange rate excuse it total bull kra**. Retarded pricing. This speaker is supposed to be cheaper than the KEF Q900 and Pro Fx quote 1.1lac for the Kef's without a discount. To me, it sounds like the dealer margins are too high.

Purchase the Audiolab 6000A Integrated Amplifier at a special offer price.
