He was my favorite Jazz trumpeter. I spend hours listening to his melancholic, evocative and sometime haunting tunes that almost always transported me to bliss. I will miss him sorely.

Last couple of years, death claimed Kenny Wheeler, and now Tomasz Stanko. I am truly worried for the future of great trumpeters now. Those who could convey emotion with their masterful melodies and improvisation and weave stories with their horns without needing to pander to pop. Current crop is just not upto the mark. One promising young trumpeter (whom I won't name) whose debut album was exceptional just released a sophomore album which has rap in one track. Sounded pretty lame.

Sad to hear this.

I must confess that I have never heard this artist before although I am familiar with many of the trumpet greats. I just listened to an album. Lovely ! Will explore more.
