Yesterday evening I was informed by my journalist friend that Music World is shutting shop across the country as the Goenka group can not keep up with its recurring losses. For me at least it is a sad loss for Kolkata. The store saw numerous new releases as part of many events organized at the store, and was a great place for me and my friends to hunt for music. Not only for Kolkata, it is a loss for proper music lovers throughout the country. So very sad that people do not appreciate true quality music. Original CDs are not appreciated because a dangerously low number of people can differentiate between CD quality music and a 158kbps mp3.
A store where you could listen to music without being harassed or disturbed, with proper freedom and respect and then choose what you wanted to buy, that now has turned out to be an oddity for a generation and a culture as a whole who do not appreciate quality or are not willing to pay for a product. What a shame. Sure original CDs are costly, and they sold everything at MRP, but still I am not being able to get over it. It is a loss for me, more than a material loss, it is eating into my moral conscience. I am not an audiophile by any means but it seems to me that true music lovers are becoming scarcer and scarcer with each day.
Sorry for the rant of frustration.
