signal processors/Limiter/gate/compressor

Is signal processors with noise gating and limiters do good for listening to old shellac recordings? Came across POPE Audio CL2000 with XLR connections.Kindly help me to choose as whether this could be an important unit to connect the output from phono preamp to listen a cleaner audio output sans noise as in old shellac and vinyl records? Systems from cedar are too much for my budget.
