hi there folks. sort of a homecoming for me after a long long break. have been doing a lot of reading here and I am sure things have changed in the hifi world (they do every year) - and I am thinking of getting myself a 2 channel stereo combo for starters. The system of choice will be a basic PM/CD 6005 combo - not able to audition it though. Heard the 6003 combo and found it sweet earlier with wharfdales.

Pleased suggest some speakers for the same. Budget 2k USD approx.

Only pressing requirement is I might want to upgrade to a 5.1 system sometime with a maratnz avr in the future and hence want the speakers possibly part of a system combo. Also can I use the analog signals thought the PM6005 routed through the AVR (lets say a SR 5008) to the speakers later. Will the sound signature change?

Sorry for the basic questions fellas - it has sure been a while here. Thanks for looking.:)

Wc back buddy.... You are already in the land where electronics are the cheapest in the world....Yes you are right.. Your connectivity is right. The sound signature shouldn't change...

If you music is Digital (FLAC,WAV,MP3), then conisder Network enabled stereo receivers like Onkyo TX 8050 ($250 in Amazon), Yamaha R N 500....

thanks man. Spoilt for choices but not been in this hunt for almost 4 years now. Trying to settle down - so building one item at a time.

So which speakers should I go for?

When you are spoilt for choices, it is always tough to choose one...:ohyeah:

DALI Zensor 7 around $1,300 / Diamond 10.7 around $1,000 / Focal Chorus 826 FS $1,600 all in amazon...

Oops.. How big (or) Small is your room...

about 15x20

for your room size , floorstander would be ideal.. for your budget , i suggest you to buy tannoy revolution dc6t SE.. it would be ideal choice for both stereo listening or future HT set up that matching center speaker also available for HT..

there is no scope of demo of Tannoy/Qacoustics/Wharf etc here in Chicago. Either I can do a blind buy and get them shipped. Or the ones that I can test would be PSB, Klipsch, B&W, Magnepan, Polk (no love), etc

Hi suprateep

Welcome back.....

B&W or Boston Acoustics or Polk Rti Series seem to pair well with Marantz, based on your room size you should audition these speakers and purchase the same. All you need to keep in mind is that the speaker impedance needs to be same or higher than the amplifier and most importantly, the speakers need to deliver most if not all frequencies between 20hz -20khz.

You may want to evaluate shipping costs, purchase cost v/s warranty availability etc....it may be a good idea to check rates and warranty in India for similar speakers...

it seems british speakers is difficult to demo in u.s.

klipsch is brighter side and that will suit only for movies.. polk has sometimes quality issues, i bought it twice but bookshelves had repaired..

dont know about psb or magnapen..

but b&w seems good for tower.. you can try the model no 684.. it has good reviews and big sound.. if possible, try the newere version of 684.. or if you are o.k. with bookshelf,b&w 685 s2(newer) will also best option

@efernand1,
He is based in Chicago.

thanks everyone for the inputs - i have a choice between PSB, Focal, Klipsch, B&W - this would involve at least 30-40 miles drives in either direction from where i stay. Anyone with experience of the combo of marantz with the above.

B&W will be easy since they are in most bestbuy's - I am leaning towards the 683
