I have an SX4 with the standard company-fitted music system/console. If I want to improve the sound without making any changes to existing components, would adding an amp alone to the existing setup suffice? Any suggestions?

Thanks
Vishnu

Hi vraned,

if you wish you retain your OEM HU, that is fine. You would need a product similar to this Audison bit - bit Ten which can then be connected to power-amp(s).

The stock speakers wont do justice if you add additional Amp to your music system. You could use components at the front doors from hertz, focal, morel, illusion audio, polk and co-axials at the back. If the "thump" is required, consider adding a mono-block amp and a subwoofer.

Be sure to damp your doors to avoid the vibrations.

PD

Vishnu,

I had the same situation with my SX4. I retained my OEM HU and changed the speakers. JBL components in front and coaxials in the back. There is considerable difference.

Thanks Guys.

Anthony,

What did the speaker change cost you? and whats a good place to buy/fix them - at the Maruti accessory store (I assume they would be more expensive)?

Thanks
Vishnu

Vishnu,

The component cost 5k and the coaxial cost 3k. Paid 8k including the fitting charge. This was around 8 months ago. I changed it at the JBL shoppe in Cochin. If you are looking for quality sound, i would advise not to look at Maruti accessory stores. I had searched a bit during that time and found that JBL,Infinity and Polk were most common ones. Settled down for JBL.

Any idea who deals with Polk Audio car speakers in Bangalore? Would be worthwhile to give it a look as well.

Thanks
Vishnu

I done it long time back. Details

If you don't go by that DIY way still get idea to put amplifier.

After that - I have done damping of four doors and speakers are changed, front illusion audio Ground Zero components and rear to illusion audio Ground zero coax.

Good Luck!

Thanks.

I just want to change the 4 speakers (if that will make a difference), and not modify/add anything else if possible. i.e., no amp, sub, damping etc.,

IMO,

If you are an audiophile, then you would need products like RF 3Sixty.2, 3Sixty.3 or audison bit-one. These are external sound processors with DSP for crossovers, eqs etc.,

If you are not, just add coaxial speakers from PolkAudio, JBL , Boston Acoustics(*) or alpine will make difference. You can go ahead with Co-axial on the front and oval coaxial at the rear for more thump. If you need components, you would have invest in amps too.
