Hi
I need some help with Bi-Wiring my Speaker. I have Whaferdale 9.5 connected to a Marantz PM8000 integrated amplifier. This is for 2 channel (Music Only).

I am planning to BiWire the speakers. The Amplifier supports A/B speakers, and currently only A speaker is connected in Single Wire Setup.

Should i use the B Speaker to do the BiWiring OR should i use the A speaker itself.

Is there any performance difference. and more important will it cause any damage to the amplifier if i use A and B for BiWiring.

Regards

you need to use only A output from the amp for bi-wiring. otherwise it will damage the speakers if you use A and B. just connect both wires into a single connect in the amp, disconnect the interconnects between the speakers and connect each wire to each interconnect in the speaker. the other option is to just do away with the brass interconnects on the speakers and do the connection with normal copper speaker wire

Thanks for the reply afj.

I was also searching on the web for the same issue and came across the below post. According to the below message it should be possible to connect A/B to same set of speakers.

Anybody has any thoughts on this????

*Can I use the A and B outputs on my receiver to bi-wire?

While this would be very convenient, it can only be done if the outputs are placed in parallel, rather than series. Many receivers and integrated amps that have two speaker outputs will connect them in series when they are both selected at the same time, to protect the amplifier from an excessively low impedance. Check your owners manual to see how the A and B output are wired when they are both selected. A simple test would be to select them both with a speaker only hooked up normally to one of them, if the sound goes dead, then they are connected in series, and you will need to connect both of the bi-wire cables to one pair of output terminals.

IMHO, will go with the a/m. just to add further, no point in bi-wiring if this is not to two separate amp o/p terminals (PC, of course).

Thanks hifiashok.

I know there are a lot of people who say bi-wiring doesnt help. But wanted to try it decide of myself

Take a look. Should answer most of your questions.

Bi-wiring - Why bi-wiring has no benefits
Thanks Mubeen.

This explains how pseudo science works. Same logic is used to sell all crap on TV channels. They use scientific terms and can fool any educated fellow. All basic laws of universe are explained in a manner they do not intend to be. I hope our audiophiles will not believe items applied with snake oil and proven by pseudo science.

@ mr big - i may stand corrected. thinking about it, biwiring from a+b may not damage the speakers

My speaker are 6Ohms.

For using both Speaker A and B the amplifier manual says the below. Does this apply to Bi-Wiring the same speakers also. Any idea guys?

Connecting Two Speaker Systems
Make sure that the impedance of each speaker is at least 16 ohms.
Connecting a speaker with impedance less than 16 ohms can causes
activation of the amplifiers protection circuitry during play, making
normal stereo playback impossible.

Sorry for bringing this thread alive.
I am not sure if my info is correct or not, but I recently spoke to a Sonodyne Tech who is in their R&D dept. He explained the concept they use for Bi-Wiring.
As per him:
Their Sonus series FS(Top model) has Bi-wiring on their binding post. He mentioned that inside, they use two different Xovers when connected in the Bi-wire mode. He said that one of the Xovers deal with the woofers and a separate one for the mid range drivers and tweeters. I was unaware of this detail till now.
I initially didnt believe it but he did give me a demo for Bi-wiring and I did find a significant difference. The lows were thumpier and the mids and highs were much clearer. But maybe its just me but I did feel a difference after bi-wiring.

Hi,

You are finding improvement in the SQ just by Bi-wiring? Or by Bi-amping?
