Speaker Positioning, in a listening room is very critical. Wrong positioning or placement can have have incorrect results in efficient reproduction of the desired frequencies. Let's start with sub-woofer placement. This is why because it would be easy to understand the effects starting from lower octaves. The same principal applies for the middle and upper ranges but with different calibrated inputs as to the frequency ranges.
Let me state this in very simple language, most of the FM are always confused in big tech talks and shy away from the topic which they cannot gulp or digest. In every listening area you have a desired sitting area, where you find that sweet spot to be your favorite. Lets start from the sub. Assume you have a 2.1 set up. You have your L & R positioned wide apart at desired ear level. and the sub in between or in one corner or beside the L or beside the R or facing back wards, or front, or sideways or opposite ???????. Which way's ?????. Are you getting the optimum spl & efficiency of that sub in your room ?. I would like the FM state their opinion on this so that I can take my views in progress towards the positive direction.

Totally agree that proper Positioning and Room correction is must for optimal results.
I have experienced similar when I tried same stereo setup in different positions.

Did you follow up any calibrated technique or just followed trial & error method to find your favorite position ?. A position where you found it to be perfect sounding to your ears. Is that right ?. Or it's something else ?. I am still waiting for any innovative steps in this direction.

Hi Friends

I used the below tool to place my BS speakers and it worked out great for me

It is originally posted by Nikhil on a different thread so thought of sharing this with you guys

hunecke.de | Loudspeakers Calculator

I did some damping of room too , like i have put carpets to complete floor, used a big blanket like this http://gearpatrol.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/12/Woolrich-Civil-War-Cavalry-Blanket-Gear-Patrol.jpg to cover the wall behind me .ie wall opp to speakers

i am yet to try the Bass traps, which i know will make difference too

Cheers

No calibration, but keeping on trying. The best position I got for good music was keeping one speaker on a sofa and another on side sofa with direction towards listener. One more FM helped me for confirming this. Also ,mounting on stands too improve sound quality.
