Hi,
Wanted to start this thread since I could not find any posts on this topic (suggestive links welcome). Have also observed that most of us are busy upgrading or buying but give little thought to how Indian climate and temperatures or speaker placement themselves could impact them.
Case in point - I have a pair of JBL Control 1 monitors which I have been using as rear speakers for the last 10 years. These were mounted for the last 5 years atleast on the side walls (about 8 feet height and directed downwards). Recently I have noticed a deterioration of sound and on checking saw that the foam suspensions of the woofers had disintegrated and cracked . Other older speakers that I have are in pristine condition (having rubber suspensions).
Since I live on the top floor I suffer from hot summers due to which the top part of the room is generally at a higher temperature. I guess this must have led to the deterioration of the speakers soon.
Senior members : Pl. advice me if I can change the suspensions with a locally available rubber cone. Would this change sound qual? What can I do here (4" mid/woofer for Control 1). Help !
