I am looking for 2.0 or 2.1 stereo system for my PC and budget is around 40K Max (Including Amp). My room size is 11 X 10 feet.

Me and my wife went on for audition at one of the Local dealer. We auditioned below speakers.

I was listening to these quality of speaker for the first time in my life and I am very new to the HiFi world (Earlier i had AL 4121 PC Speakers), I will try my best to describe how these speaker sounded to me.

1) MS Mezzo 2 - These were demo 1 year old piece and dealer is ready to sell them at 21K. He connected these to NAD 326 (34K after discount), and played few Bollywood numbers thru my mobile (HTC One X+) I disabled Beats audio while playing. These speakers have very good reviews in the forum, I don't know why but to us they sounded very harsh in upper mid and high range (May be due to fact that these are 1 yr. old) in fast paced songs like "1 2 3 4" from Chennai Express. Quantity of Bass was sufficient for our liking. For slow songs like "Titli" from the same movie speaker sounded very good.

Dealer said Mezzo's match better with CA amp and said he has 2 Year old CA 840a amp lying around and will sell it for 45K. He also said he has old stands for Mezzo 2 which he can give for 6.5K as per him new pair cost around 9.5K. He agreed to give me demo for CA 840a + Mezzo 2 (on stand) after few days. I will post my experience once i hear them again.

2) PSB Imagine Mini- These were again connected to NAD 326. They sounded very nice, laid back and vocals were amazing but sound stage was small compare to Mezzo 2. Bass was also perfect. Dealer quoted 44K for these after discount and are way out of our budget.

3) PSB Image T5 - These were again connected to NAD 326. Man we were blown away by their sound :clapping:, everything was perfect Vocals, Sound stage, Bass, Instruments everything, we couldn't stop smiling :). He quoted 57K for these after discount .

4) Q7000 - I saw this 5.1 set was connected there to ONKYO 525 and i asked him if he can play them, he agreed and played a scene from Van Helsing movie. WOW!! they were amazing, everything was crystal clear. He quoted 72K for these speaker and around 39K for AVR i don't remember exactly though.

He doesn't have PSB B5 or B6 for demo but he quoted 28K for B5 and 36K for B6.

I don't know if i will increase my budget or not but below are few of the questions i have.

Qustions

1) Is the price quoted from dealer are ok? for new and old stuff?

2) Is Mezzo 2 better than B5 or B6 ?

3) We liked PSB T5 a lot. So can i blindly purchase B5? since they are from the same series.

3) Is FS suitable for my room size? what if i shift them in my hall (13 X 19) in future.

4) Can i pair Mezzo 2/ PSB B5 / PSB B6 with NAD 316 which is priced lower for 24.5K?

5) Very important question... Should i drop this idea and purchase SWAN M50 (2.1 speaker) for now. And purchase either T5 or B6 later once i have sufficient budget.

I will really appreciate your view on this. Thanks in advance.

So many views and no replies. Guys did i ask the wrong question.

If you play back is going to be from PC, then powered speakers are better...

Hope you have a dedicated sound card on your PC...

You can look @ Audio Engine A5, should be priced within your budget & will ideally fit your room size of 11 x 10 feet....

Or you can check the Audio engine A2 also for approx 15K... Should do justice for your room size...

Thanks @elangoas

I don't want to spend this many cash on powered speaker.

Is the 21K price offered for 1 year old Mezzo 2 is good? Can Mezzo 2 pair well with Norge Gold 1000?

hi esobaki,

I won't call myself a seasoned audiophile but thanks to the experts on this forum, i own a norge 2060 paired with wharfedale 10.1's and its serving to my listening pleasures to a very good extent. I have my laptop, dvd player and tatasky connected to the norge as inputs. This combination is way way better than any 2.1 mutimedia speakers and worth every penny :) hope it helps.

regards

I hope you meant not interested in spending 40K on powered speakers.... You can get the Audio Engine A2 (15K) if you don't want to spend much...

If you don't have a dedicated sound card, how abt a stand alone DAC + powered speakers ?

if 21K is the reduced price for the demo speakers, what is the original price....Norge pairs well with wharfedale diamonds, is what i have seen in this forum....

That's what I heard here too. Norge pair well with wharfedale.

How does Wharf 121 compare with Mezzo 2 and PSB Image B5? What HiFi have rated 121 five star.

All these speakers are priced in the same range.

I don't have sound card. I have an iMac which I will use for playing songs mostly 320kbps. Can you recommend a DAC which will fit for my purpose and will not be heavy on wallet?

I have used diamond 9.2 for close to 2 years with Marantz AVR.... They are sweet sounding speakers...... So Wharf 121 should be on similar lines if not better...

I think you like Mezzo 2 with the NAD pairing, but they overshoot your budget..... May be you can try the smaller NAD 316

I have a fair idea abt DAC's for PC....All i know is you should be using USB output of your laptop to connect to the DAC which inturn will be connected to power speakers..

Audio engine also produces DAC....

D1 24-bit DAC

Not very sure abt the price..... Other FM could pitch in with inputs...

Meanwhile read thru this section of the forum when you have time, to get a better understanding of DAC's for PC... http://www.hifivision.com/dac/

In fact i liked the Image series more than Mezzo but the dealers didn't had Image B5 or B6 for demo. He told me 21K for demo piece of Mezzo 2 and 26K for new PSB Image B5, so I would rather prefer PSB B5 over Mezzo 2 but these both are going over my budget with NAD 316 too. God this is so difficult .

Where i can audition Wharfedale in Vadodara or Ahmedabad ?

Just a thought...

What if i buy PSB Image B5 + T20 Amp for now. I heard they are very cheap. will this combo work?

And once i have sufficient budget then later add an NAD 316 or 326 later.

How much would the PSB Image T5 + T20 Amp setup cost you ?

PSB T5 = 57K
PSB B5 = 28K
T20 = 5 to 6K

I am not sure about the T20 amp but seems that is the price at which everybody is getting thoes.

Ok... I would suggest you to re-consider Audio Engine A2 for few reasons...

1) you can straight away plug them to your PC headphone output & your done.. They re the most powerful powered speakers for PC...
2) only if you feel you need an improvement in sound quality , add a DAC later..
3) for listening to Mp3 @ 320Kbps, i don't think you need to spend close to 35K...

You can save some money & build an other system later...Juz my thoughts...

I was so frustrated and confused to decide.

So i just ordered Swan M200MKII from Amazon.. hope it was a right decision.

Don't know until i receive and hear them (Fingers Crossed..!!! :)).

Bump!!!!!!!!!!
Hi Sir,
I was really upset looking on to your Point 3:sad:, I have only 320KBPS and not sure where to get the FLACS for my collection, So 320Kbps will not do justice to some stuff more than 20?

I have FLAC but, FLAC is not so special atleast for me when it get played from Laptop compared to 320 Kbps.

So should is start FLAC collection, before some upgrade??? Your advice would be helpfull and keep my hope alive

Don't get disheartened buddy...What i meant was when you spend close to 35K, it is better to have good source files like FLAC & WAV... In the absence of good files like FLAC & WAV, MP3 @ 320Kbps is better...

FLAC is any day better than MP3 @ 320 Kbps.... When you have a good system MP3 will sound thinner & FLAC more richer....
