Thanks everyone...
Arj, what exactly is integration and how would I go about doing it? Sorry not much experience with this.
Subcenter & Gowrish...I will audition your suggestions
Reignofchaos...which amp are u suggesting?
there are primarily 4 parameters to take care of
1. positioning : where in the room will the room lock in to the room
2 Phase: depending on the position from the speaker the phase has to be set.
3 Crossover: at which crossover setting does the sub add on to the speaker and help it cover a larger range rather than interfering with it
4 sub amplifier level. the sub should not be heard.but missed when switched of...most folks hate subs in audio because they have only heard it pump up the volume and not augment the speakers
to find
First increase the sub volume pretty high so it is clear
1: put the sub in your seating position and play a piece with bass. walk around the room till you hit a place where the sound is the loudest. that is where you place the sub..9 times out of 10 it is a corner
2: with the sub in place listen from your listening point in both phase positions ..use the one where the sub appears louder. please also try playing with the angle of the sub vis a vis the walls..it may sound better at a different position
3: 3 and 4 are complementary..but keeping the sub volume just below the volume of the speakers, reduce the crossover to minimum and keep increasing it till at a point the midrange cleans up. this is the crossover point. in many subs it is a 10dB point of the speaker..but need not be so
4: now change the volume so that you just hear it..and if you switch it off you miss it.
the above is easier said than done. have a friend to make it faster/easier... it took me 3 weeks of around 5 hours per week to get it right  ..but when you do, its worth it
