Now that I have enough subs, I am considering placing two in my HT room, to get the best special effects, eliminating all the disadvantages of a single sub. My question is since my AV prepro has only a single sub out, is there any real benefit to this-after all the same summed signal will be passed and amplified to two subs, not like a real stereo signal..

Any inputs/thoughts esp about room placement etc welcome.

Having two subs has its own advantages and disadvantages. You'll definitely get more bass but it would have been even better if you had identical subs. There will be a little loss due to splitting signal but negligible.

About advantages and placement options, you can try it out. I have a Blue Jeans Y-splitter cable that you can borrow for trying out placement options.

If you have two identical subs, best location is the midpoints of opposite walls.

Hi george, having gone thru placement od subs..it is exciting or back breaking depending on how you go ahead.

you will have to do it first one at a time and then together.the advantage of having a pair is not in terms of stereo but of cancelling room nodes (ideal is 4 :) ).
try this Boundary Cancellation and Room Modes to check the frequency nodes

for an HT, i feel it should be in corners..ideally in opposite corners as each wall reinforces the sound by 3 db and hence a corner gives you a 9db boost (basically in effect increasing the amplifier power 8 times ) and also helps bolster the lower frequency response. calculation

you can do this with, as santosh suggested a Y splitter. I have seen "Tower of Power" setups with stacked subs but that is more of power than even response.

Thanks

I have a splitter (used it with a valve integrated for a long time to get sub input) lying around, need to locate it.(Thanks Mahiruha!). Yes I understand about room modes, I will play around a bit.
