Hi there folks, this is my 1st post on this forum :)

Ok well, I just got a new LCD TV (Panasonic VIERA TH-L39B60D) and had these 2.1 speakers i.e Creative SBS A335 which I have connected to the TV.

The TV is placed on a pedestal and not wall mounted. Now due to space constraints, I have placed the sub-woofer right behind the TV.

My question is, is it safe to keep the woofer behind the TV, would it be an issue in the long term. I understand that if it had been a CRT TV it would have been impossible to keep the woofer behind the TV but what about LCD TV's.

Thanks

Placing sub behind the TV does not do good or bad.
You would need to try out various placements and see which best suits you. Generally corner placements give more output. It also depends on the room dimensions.
You can try the positions and check your self for the best output

The subwoofer will vibrate, depending upon the loudness. Also, it will move the air. Since your tv is on a pedestal, make sure its not shaking due to sub vibrations. It can be very dangerous.

Every year, lots of accidents happen due to lightweight tvs which are not mounted. Recently there was an accident in Mumbai and a 8 year old boy was dead due to tv falling. See if you can fasten the tv permanently to something.

If you are aware the early days LCD TV LG has launched one model with built in subwoofer with extended bass. They had to discontinue that model abruptly as they were getting lot of field complaints about LCD panel failure due to the reverberations made by the woofer. So think twice.

Evidently I am yet to see a single manufacturer in this many years to launch a LCD / LED back lit LCD TV (the so called LED TVs) with good bass reception. In this technologically competitive electronics market why not any one has ventured. A point to ponder.

Sub woofer ideally should be placed closed to corner walls for optimized sound effect. You can though place it wherever you like but as pointed out by other FM's please be careful that the TV is well fixed to the pedestal to avoid accidents

thanks manoj for reminding us the safety aspects and responsibilities which should not be forgotten.

to op..you get simple 3.5mm extensions..and place wherever you want.
this extension wont play a role in quality degradation with these inexpensive pc speaker sets..

A beautiful, well-constructed speaker with class-leading soundstage, imaging and bass that is fast, deep, and precise.
