Koushik if you are looking for a sub for stereo I dont think any commercially available sub below 15k will cut the mustard. They just wont have the tightness and speed to properly integrate with the rest of your system. And frequency extension to 30 hz is not desirable if the sub cabinet does not have sufficient damping to reduce vibration and resonance, which I doubt yamaha has put in at such a low price. Better to have less bass than having the bass shake the cabinet and muddy the sound.
But if you are looking for ht where accuracy is not that important, I guess you can go with any sub which sounds good to you. Polk is not known to make good subs at the lower end, but psw 110 is good value and will get the job done for ht. I'll say dont go for 125 as that cabinet is not good enough for a 12" woofer and it is pretty muddy. I dont know about sonodyne and others you mentioned, maybe you can audition them.
@ Koushik, I am in agreement with FM Tirthankar's post above and like both Jaudere and he have advised, avoid Yamaha subs.
A sub-15k good, branded subwoofer is, indeed a VERY tall order.
If you are absolutely particular about NOT extending.exceeding your budget, you could consider getting it made or going in for the Norge NSW 100. It will do the job in a small to medium room but dont expect couch shaking effects in larger rooms. Further suggestions from FMS may be forthcoming only if your budget is a mite flexible.
Got the DNM sub for home demo today. Experimenting with it. Variable line out not working with it properly in my set up due to highly sensitive mains but high level Inputs are working very well. Very well built. Must be weighing at least 20kg. Interestingly the lable on amp says that model is IFK DM-604-8 and is made in England. May be thats the plate amp only and not the whole sub. Will try to post pics. MRP 18k. Will bargain if I am satisfied over next 3 days. Sonodyne was quoted 17.9k (quoted price, will come down on bargaining)
@ Jaudere
That looks quite interesting, but if its a sealed design
(don't see any port(s)/PR(s) up front or rear, unless there is one at the bottom, which again isnt the best place to have one)
AFAIK, it might not go as low as say, a ported, bandpass or a TL design. Nevertheless, a sealed design is easier to design and usually more forgiving than poorly designed ones of the ported kind.
Eagerly looking forward to read your opinions on this DNM 12 incher with emphasis on how it integrates with you existing stereo set-up. If it plays good bass-heavy tracks well, then doing justice to transitional sound effects during HT sessions shouldnt pose a problem.
Just my two phooti kaudies, though. Your ears would tell you more than any words can convey.
HTH, all the same.
