Surround Speakers for a 7.1 system

Hi,
I have a Onkyo 609 and Heco Victa FS and center speakers,Please suggest some good surround speakers to setup a 7.1 system ,iam looking at wall mounting the surrounds.Could you also please suggest if bipolar speakers are a good fit.My budget is around 10K for a pair.

Always match speakers for a multi-channel setup. Heco Victa Surrounds should be your first choice.

In my opinion for a 7.1 setup the surround left / right should have some amount of bass reflex since they are close to ears. However the surround back right / left can be anything. I use Aviano 1 for side surrounds and yamaha nsp8900 for rear surrounds

If you are tight on your budget you can even buy the Wharfedale 10.DFS dipoles..

My old pal Ray has published a guide (above) to setup a 7.1 home system. You need four surround speakers for the full effect. Two fire from the side, and two fire from the rear. While wall mounting is possible, better to start on stand for fine tuning.

I invite your attention to the discussion below concerning bipole speakers. (this is my preference)

You can use any brand or style of speaker you like, meaning appealing to your ears. You don't need to "match" or select a certain type to go with your amplifier. The only consideration you may be forced to countenance is that of the womenfolk as to the visual aesthetics.

Not all manufacturers wire their speakers the same way, so you might want to test the phasing to be sure all the speakers are "marching in the same direction."

I am not sure from your post which Victas you have, but they seem to be a credible brand. You don't mention if you have a floor stander as a center, nor if you have a sub woofer. You will need that for the .1 of the 7.1.

The surrounds do not need much bass. Mixing protocols call for a low cutoff of 80 Hz, and quite often 120Hz is used. Pay attention to surface covering and and seating position. These are the most important to receive the full delicious flavor of a 7.1 system.
