Hi All, been trying to optimise the bass on my SVS SB 1000. My room is a bit complicated as its got hard surfaces all over. Its about 14x10. Posted 2 images of the room from either side. As of now, the best spot i could find for the sub is below my left rear speaker. The sub Phase is set to 180. Crossover on the AVR is set to 120. Thanks in advance.

Sub crawl. No other way to find the right spot in your room. Many threads detailing the process along with a lot of videos on it on YouTube.
Sub crawl is your best bet to find a spot closest to the perfect spot.

Any particular reason for keeping the phase at 180, try keeping it at " 0 " & see if it makes any difference. Like "Mash" has advised, you may need to move the sub to see the best spot.
I read if it's placed opp a speakers, especially towers, to cancel out excursion its better to set to 180. I think i have found this to be true hence kept it at 180.
Ok, then I guess its fine. Or you could ask someone to turn the phase knob on the sub while you are sitting in the MLP & see at what setting it sounds the best.
I see you have a PB1k.. how do you find the mids from the sub..? Thing is, my Deftec sub was superb but sounds dead in this new flat which forced me to buy a new sub in the first place.
I had a similar setup like yours few years back with the Deftech promonitor 1000's along with the prosub 1000. I changed the sub to the SVS PC 2000 & it is in a different league but not a fair comparison with the prosub 1000. I changed the promonitors too.
I have no idea about the SB 1000 but it sure has better & true specs than the Deftech subwoofer which comes with fudged specs.

Crawling in a Mumbai flat leads to nowhere
Maybe it might sound the best in the neighbours flat in which case the crawl position exposes the backside to a painful kick
The folks who invented crawl method live far away in much bigger rooms.
My Deftec used to kick ass in my old room (not a whole lot smaller) but just dont feel that punch (DefTec or SVS) in my new flat. I guess i may be more asking for room correction than actual sub optimization but yea. Thanks gents
Ha ha size doesn't matter. Trust me. Get down on your knees and explore all the possible spots. Pick the one that sounds best. No one can place the sub in the perfect spot unless it's in a dedicated room. It's always a compromise, aim is to compromise as less as possible. Also use svs isolation pods/gym mat/sand box to keep the sub isolated. It really helps.Crawling in a Mumbai flat leads to nowhere

Well it was good when it was hooked in a ht setup with my receiver. Once I switched it to a stereo setup, the sub gained a few more watts and sounded stronger and deeper. I then added svs isolation pods, that really cleaned it up. Sounded wonderful. I am currently running it through a minidsp.
Placement of the speaker matters a lot. Many times a lot of spots sound a lot similar and becomes confusing. Needs patience but once found, makes you tap your feet.

Mash, you'll have relatively big spaces in B'lore. In Mumbai, space is a premium & few have that luxury. If you do a crawl, your head may end up hitting a table, chair or some furniture. You may need to crawl with a helmet.

Thanks MaSh and Nitin. Mumbai houses definitely don't favour ideal HT placement.
People say bass is omnidirectional and make subwoofer placement sound simpler than it is. I need to give the gym tile a shot.
Most welcome sl4y3r. A gym tile may help in isolating the vibrations & bass sounding tighter. Pls try placing the sub a little closer to the wall & to the extent that it does not sound boomy. Was the audyssey calibration with respect to the sub fine in the approx 75 db range while calibrating. ?
Even I don't have much space for the sub to move around. Only towards & away from the walls makes an audible difference. I am sure there may be more tweaking required but as of now quite happy with the bass.

I have not tried Audyssey because
1) I'm using a Marantz 5006 at the moment so not sure how good the Room EQ will be
2) I don't know if my Onkyo mic is good to be used with the Marantz (its a standard mic so I think it's fine)
3) I Don't trust Audyssey in the AVRs that are typically in my budget
I am not sure if the Onkyo mic would do the job properly for the Marantz avr since they generally recommend using the mic which comes with the avr. I am also using a Marantz & Audyssey XT 32 did a good job on the subwoofer by making it more punchy & tighter.
Oh good to know Audyssey actually made a difference in your setup, what sub do u have?. i will check if the Onkyo mic works.
Sub is SVS PC 2000. For the last calibration, I used the Audyssey phone app & did some tweaking for the fronts but left the subwoofer settings to its default on the app. No harm in trying the Onkyo mic if there is an improvement in calibration.
