Okay, I'm really confused with this problem. I'm so confused/amazed that its even hard to explain.

I have TataSky HD, Denon 1911 & Samsung D8000 64" Plasma.

Like I should, I'm giving the input of Tatasky HD to Denon 1911 Sat/cable and from Denon 1911 output is going to TV perfectly.

Now the problem is there is NO SOUND. Neither from the TV, nor from the denon receiver, although initially it worked fine for same days.

then I thought of putting input to some other port like BD or DVD, both times the sound came over first time and then never came back again once i switched off/on the receiver n everything.

I'm not able to diagnose the problem, I'm sure if I send the audio output via TOSLINK it will definitely work. But I need it go through HDMI route as initially it was working perfectly fine.

There's setting also in TataSkyHD (Audio Settings) to set audio output via hdmi or spdif. I have kept it HDMI and tried PCM/Dolby both but have no results.

Please help..Thanks

I am using below settings.

Tata Sky HD box --> HDMI to AVR AND Coaxial to AVR

AVR HDMI --> LCD TV HDMI

Make sure that you are using AVR HDMI out to LCD TV HDMI IN.

Also make sure that you are using PCM in TATA Sky HD Sound settings under User Settings if you don't have all 5/7 sound box.

I have only two book shelf hence I too faced the same issue earlier. the moment I selected PCM, bingo.

If you are using Dolby, you must have minimum 3 speakers to get a decent sound. other wise with only two, you may not get any voice tones, only few music sound.

Why use coaxial when HDMI can send sound and was working fine.
I have 5.1 Qacoustics setup.

This may be due to the HDMI handshake issue. It frequently happens with my denon 1612 and Reliance HD, where the video drops. What I do is switch off the STB completely and on it again. From avs forum:

HDMI Handshake: Handshake issues will most often present as "audio dropouts" or sometimes video display issues. HDMI handshake issues with cable/sat boxes are quite common (with any brand of AVR) and are usually always the fault of the cable/sat box not being designed to be connected to an HDMI repeater (ie. AVR) which is why they work without issue connected directly to the TV. The first thing to try to resolve the issue is to ensure the source device having the issue has the latest firmware installed. Next try following this turn ON order: TV first, wait a few seconds, then the AVR, wait a few seconds, and finally the source device

thats very deep, will try. But not all my family will be able to do same..i think i'll go with optical output of tatasky. *rolls eyes*

This may sound crazy , but remove/unplug all wires from all ends and connect them back again in your chain. Change your HD audio setup from HDMI to spdif (for some reason, it never stores hdmi value) . Try it.

Exactly the reason I am using a Coaxial cable for Sound purpose only and HDMI for Picture. :)

I am not sure if this is a fault of the firmware of TATA Sky HD boxes but they seems to revert back to SPDIF only rather than HDMI.

Cool raghav, had the same issue with my 1311. The problem was with the hdmi board. Raised a service call they came home replaced the faulty part. Its working fine now

I am not sure if this is a fault of the firmware of TATA Sky HD boxes but they seems to revert back to SPDIF only rather than HDMI.

My suggestion was only to change the menu setting not the cable. It works fine in my setup.

After spending 1-1.5 hours yesterday on the setup, checking all the cables...I was able to get sound via hdmi only. But then when I restarted everything ..i wasnt getting sound. It happened many times.

Importantly, I think its Tatasky firmware issue..whenever I changed audio setting to HDMI , it automatically reverted to SPDIF. However in my other tataskyhd where I've put direct hdmi cable to TV and spdif to onkyo reciever..I'm getting sound from both.

So now I had to do what every1 suggested..use a spdif cable. So now I'm not relying on hdmi cable for audio output anymore.
