Hi,

I have the new Tata Sky HD Plus set top box & LG 32LE4600 LED TV. My LED TV is capable of Dolby Digital Decoder & Sorround System. The LED TV is connected to tatasky with single HDMI cable & as i understand to get best audio from TSHD+ you need to use coaxial cable. I would also like to clarify i dont have any home theater system & dont intend to buy it so would like to get best sound out of my LED TV. I need help with following questions

(1) Can i connect tata sky hd plus to led tv with coaxial cable for audio & continue using HDMI for video

(2) How to do the above

(3) If i connect through coaxial will the sound improve currently the sound signal is at 50 hz

(4)How can i get best quality sound from my LED TV through tata sky hd plus

I don't think you can do so. Also your current connection is one of the best available to you.

Even if your TV can decode DD, not much benefits could you get as the speakers would still be 2 (normally for all TVs). So you anyway get PCM 2.0 sound through HDMI.

TVs usually never has Digital inputs. If you connect using coaxial RCA LR, bad idea as it would reduce the quality. Best is to use HDMI sound (and you anyway wont have option to use LR unless you connect component or composite Video - as the sound is already coming through HDMI and TV will always use it).

Your current connection is best for you and you could wait for TS to upgrade their TS+HD firmware to pass DD signals through HDMI.

Thank you friends for this thread.

Here are some of my observations that will be helpful to all.

My old tata sky box remote was not working so I called them and asked for repair / replacement. They told about Tata sky plus , I agreed. As you all mentioned, I got disappointed there was no DD5.1 through HDMI to my Denon Receiver. I refused to take the plus box. I told them to change the remote of my old box. They found that the box is faulty and not remote. Next day they change the digicomp (normal HD). When it completed downloading the software it was not the old one and it is changed to HD plus and there is no DD 5.1 over HDMI in old box too! It is the software and not the box is responsible which I deduced. However, thank you friends I connected the coaxial with simple AV cable ( 10 Rs.!) DD 5.1 worked! Believe me the quality is much better than which I used to get from the cheepoo HDMI cable provided by Tata.

Now my connection is STB HDMI to AV Receiver From there to HDTV (working as pass through video) and AV cable as coaxial STB to Coaxial Denon 1610. Running perfect. No need to mute the TV even, which I though I may have to.

I ordered Tata sky plus again.

You would get the same quality through HDMI, coaxial or optical connection as they carry the same DD/PCM audio digitally with mathematical accuracy.

I have got an appointment with TS quality team for tomorrow or the day after tomorrow, I will ask them when would they resolve these issues related to the features of the STB as this problem is essentially disabling a BASIC FEATURE on the STB.

Tata Sky has been offering 3 different kinds of set-top boxes since a while, which include Tata Sky+ (with recording but no HD), Tata Sky HD (with HD but no recording) and a bare bones (no recording, no HD) option as well. The reason I chose not to upgrade from my bare-bones box was because I was expecting a hybrid box (with both recording and HD) to launch pretty soon. Tata Sky Plus HD is finally here and I was among the first few customers to order it.

Re: AVR Denon 2313 + Samsung LED + TataSky HD Plus Connection issue.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hello , I have the denon avr 2313. TataSky HD PLus, Samsung LED.
I am confused I have read some people are telling me to use HDMI to connect and get 7.1 if it exist with tata sky. SOme people are telling me use HDMI for video or use Optical or coaxial for the sound from tata sky to avr.

So what should I use to get best results and which has worked for you?
When I installed Tatasky Plus HD a while back the tech engineer was told by his boss that ask customers to use optical not HDMI. That was in 2011 now its 2012 any updates? My receiver coming in today!

1) AVR to TataSky - HDMI ?
2) AVR to TataSky - HDMI with coaxial sound ?
3) AVR to TataSky - HDMI with optical sound ?

mek,

TS HD+ STB used to pass the DD signal through HDMI before an update disabled it in Apr 2011, and till another update made it available during late 2011 and early 2012, the digital coax cable had to be used.

Though the UI defect of audio o/p showing digital coax even if the DD is passed through HDMI still exists.

Here is what you need to do the configure audio out over HDMI:

Change the audio source a couple of times to make the blue save button enabled, once it is enabled for HDMI save the settings, the DD will be passed through the HDMI however the TS UI will keep on showing the digital coax, ignore what the UI says, and you are all set to enjoy the 5.1 sound.
