The Saga of Super V - I

At long last my recently finished Open baffle DIY Super V are punching away ! The story of these is nothing short of a thriller or rather it has transformed from a slow boring novel to a nail biting thriller.
The Super V is an Open Baffle Speaker from GR Research of USA, incorporating a pair of Open Baffle subwoofers driven by Rhythmik Audio Servo Subwoofer amplifier. The mids and highs are handled by a co-axial Woofer again in an open baffle with a tweeter whose back is opened up.
Background:
It was in early 2011, Danny Richie of GR Research offered a bargain pricing on his Kits which was picked up by our good Captain ( Rajesh ). Initially this offers was not open for his higher end Speakers including Super V. However, as the frustratingly slow momentum gathered on the Forum, Danny kept sweetening the deal. It was tied to a minimum Order value. This in itself was a stumbling block, as a group buy and group import had to be done under one bill of lading. However, the Indian Customs rules do not permit this. Capt. Rajesh had to pull all the stops and sue the good will of his being an army man to eventually get a special permission to do this.
On the other hand, Danny offered 10% discount above and beyond his already low prices. Then he offered free shipment upping the total minimum Order amount and also included his entire portfolio of products.
Decision:
At this point I got interested in his last pair of Super Venuette V-2 Open Baffle Speakers.
V-2
These use a pair of Eminence 12 Open Baffle Subwoofer Drivers driven by Plate Amps and the top was a 8 P-Audio Coaxial Woofer. After much deliberation, I eventually decided on the flagship Super V Kit which received rave reviews and utilized Servo Subwoofers and larger Cao-axial woofers with unique open tweeter. Of course all this was at much more than twice the cost of the V-2.
Super-V
My logic was that it would be rather expensive to import a Kit weighing in excess of 90 kgs. as individually it could only be air-freighted. Also the group buy presented a unique once in a life time opportunity.
Shipment:
After quite some delay, the Shipment arrived. The good Captain had to run from pillar to post to get the consignment cleared. Which he managed but also vowed never to get involved in such a venture again !
Once the Kit was delivered to Captain Rajesh, not wanting to trust the Courier Service, I drove down the following Sunday to collect it from him.
More to come.
Jayant
