Few weeks ago I got a 12v 6.5a LPS for my Mac Mini. It came with two Nover LA 10000uf 50v electrolytic caps. It sounds very very good but I wanted a bit more clarity and openness. So I got Vishay 256 caps. While the clarity has improved I’m noticing the natural, smooth and delicate tone from the Nover is missing.

I’m looking for suggestions on any other alternative caps that I could try.

Please lemme know if any further details are required. Thanks in advance for the help!

PS: I’m not a diy dude. But a good friend is helping.

I have used Mac Mini for many years. The last one I got made to order with i7 processor, 16GB Ram and SSD. But a computer is a computer not really meant for playing high quality music.
Will recommend use a music server. There are many but the most reasonable and best is Roon Nucleus. It will serve both as a server and streamer.
Though in rupee term a bit expensive but a worthwhile investment.
Wasting money to feed good power supply to Mac mini can be of limited help.

Mundorf are pretty good

You could also try a supercapacitor but may not be a drop in replacement

Also, caps need a few hours of burn in. 20 or so should get you most of the way there
Thanks Jai. I did have Mundorf in mind but couldn’t get hold of when I got the Vishay. Will see if I can find em now.

Yes, I have observed the LPS change around 130-140hrs and around 300. Didn’t expect the burnin would take that long for an LPS.

I’m not seeking irrelevant suggestions

Thats rude. No suggestion is irrelevant in audio, fact remains that pc or mac is not ideal for music playback. Capacitors are wisely chosen by design engineer for a particular music taste if the designer knows his stuff. Its not neccessary new caps will be better.

If I were seeking suggestion for a streamer etc I would have posted accordingly.

It’s true that the new caps could turn out worse. But would like to experiment nonetheless. So why not start with a bit of feedback from FMs, I thought.

I have heard a couple of streamers and felt they were more of a sideways upgrade rather than an “upgrade upgrade” vs my Mac mini+Uptone MMK+ Audirvana+ LPS +a decent power cable and a decent DC cable (about 70k total incl a 2TB SSD. Streamers I heard are at similar price point). So I would have to spend a lot more than the current setup to properly upgrade from the Mini. I’m reluctant to do that as I’m content for now. Hence just looking for minor improvements only, if possible.

Considering the above…since the response has nothing to do with the question…IMO it is still irrelevant.
