Can someone please suggest good external hard drive?

Budget: $100+
Usage: Music + data backup
Minimum capacity: 1 TB

My current one is 500GB and it is USB powered.

This one looks good.

The one that is lower priced is USB 2.0 and other one is USB 3.0 which is higher priced. IMO, you MUST go for 3.0 as with 2TB it is obvious that you will transfer large chunk of data which is painfully slow using USB 2.0

Even if you don't have 3.0 compatible machine it is only matter of time that you will have one. 3.0 is the technology of the hour. Don't walk backward in technology for some 20-25 dollar.

BTW I see that the difference in pricing is not as huge when bought locally.
Flipcart has the Seagate backup plus @ 7K here, best US price is around 5.8K

Not huge difference actually like seen in case of cams and other electronics. Is my reading right?
