Points to a slow down in the industry.

Most of the gear is manufactured in China and some of them in Japan . Some like say Rega is manufactured in UK and Atoll in France .

So ideally our tariff's , customs etc with that country should decide prices in India . So if something is imported from China to India and has nothing to do with US , then the price should not vary much .

But our dealers already have a huge markup and they will increase it further and that would mean customers are likely to stay away at least for a temp period .

In many instances I have had some of our dealers quote the US retail price, while selling their products (which are already a huge markup), regardless of where it is made. So it is inevitable now that they will again mark up the prices however illogical it is. One should watch the Denon receiver pricing in the next few months, which is going to get marked up in the US by Samsung due to tariffs - as per the article. I am pretty sure Indian dealers will follow suit, though none of these receivers will suffer any tariff as they will be shipped directly to India from the country of origin.
