VFM audio system for honda amaze under 10k?

Hi,

I need a VFM audio system for honda amaze and my budget is <10k. I only need usb stick playback and no CD/DVD/Video etc. I only need speakers for my own listening and no speakers at the back.

I am looking at a sony DSX A30 for around 3k. I can also install component speakers in the front for lets say 3k more.

So my questions are:

1)How good is the quality of sony DSX A30 ? Is it decent enough for my needs? Its a single DIN , will it fit in the amaze or do i need to go for a double din? Will a single din leave a large hole in the dashboard?

2) Which speakers around that price (3k) that will be a good fit for the sony DSX A30 and not be an overkill?

3) I still got 4k left. Is it worthwhile to invest it in something like a subwoofer/ better HU/Speakers that will dramatically improve the sound quality or should i save the money for something else like Autocop.

Components - spend a bit more to get something better, in the 4K range. Look for something with a silk/textile dome tweeter.
Do check out your local shops and tell us what are available.

Plus installation acessories - Wiring harness, wooden spacers etc are things installers usually omit - they make a big difference.

I looked around for the JVC and the alpine HU but since i live in a small city, my best bet is to buy the HU and speakers online.

On snapdeal too i am not able to find these but i can buy the sony A 30 for less than 3k . Is there a major difference between the sony a30 and the JVC one?

Can you suggest some speakers from snapdeal / any other online site?

not sure how the situation is now, but sony HU build quality used to be pathetic, with things going wrong all the time (which is why they offered a 3 year warranty).

At least the speakers, you'd have to buy locally. if your local guy doesn't stock components, he probably doesn't know how to install them, and even the ones who stock, I've seen some spectacularly bad ways in which they've screwed up installs

if possible, by all means. There is a shop called driven somewhere in NCR, which is highly recommended by some of the folks i know. If i recall they used to be at East of Kailash, not sure where they are now.

Update:

Seems like taking a trip to Delhi etc looks unlikely until 3-4 months and i cannot wait that much. So the only way is to get a good system online and get it installed locally.


Please suggest me an entry level VFM CD player with usb and component speakers. My budget has been reduced to 8k. Also the suggestions should be easily available online preferably on snapdeal.

Currently i am looking at Pioneer TS-A1605C speakers with a kenwood KDC U356 HU (For 4280 + 4000 and 10% discount) . Please suggest something better if possible.

I had a talk with honda accessories guy and he told me that i should install a player which is compatible with my car because if any wires etc are cut or the player is improperly installed , my warranty may be voided. I asked him about the installation and he quoted a price of around 35-50k for the stock player which did not even have a cd player! I cannot/ will not buy from these guys.

So my question again is that if i buy a player online, how can i be sure that it is compatible with the car? and how can i be sure that the installer uses the correct procedure instead of cutting wires?

Do not worry they only tend to scare you. Each HU or system when wired in comes with its own wiring harness, no wires are clipped or cut in the process only holes may be drilled in the front doors which will not void warranty. There is no such thing as compatible player for this car or that car, each HU can be mounted on each car(given you have a car which is not from the 70's) , when it comes to double din system , if you have that compatibility any aftermarket system will fit, agin that will not void the warranty.

This same false positive was thrown to me (and let me say this is bullcrap) when i was buying i20 . They just want to gulp your money. And if you don't get the system from any local car shops, i.e get it from online make sure you have a good place to install it.


There are also plenty of youtube videos that can point you in the right direction of installing yourself.

you will need to buy a wiring harness compatible with the car you have. That doesn't come with the HU.

Saheb above you said that each HU comes with its own wiring harness and you are saying that i will have to get it separately. So i am in bit of a confusion. So i need to know if i buy the recommended HU's on snapdeal then will i get the wiring harness or not? If not then where can i buy them online?

If i skip the idea of getting a HU online and get one from a local shop then what questions do i need to ask him and what should i know to make sure he is using the correct wiring harness and not voiding my warranty?

every car has this big plastic multi pin connector inside the dashboard hooked up to the power, speakers, antenna etc. You need a matching connector to connect it to the HU. these connectors are car specific, and not standardized, and you will need to get one yourself.

Most installers just cut this connector off, and directly connect the wires to the HU, which will end up giving Honda a reason to deny warranty for your car.

I also do not understand what saheb is saying when he says that the HU comes with its own harness. They come with a harness that connects to the HU, but not to the car.

here is a pic of the wiring of my head unit. You can see a bunch of wires coming from inside the car, then a big white plastic connector (actually that is the male and female connectors together) and then the wires connected with some insulation tape, followed by a black connector at the end.

The black connector and the wires leading to the part where the insulation tape is , is the harness that comes with the HU. The white connector and the wires leading to the car are already there. The matching whine connector for that, along with the wires are the wiring harness for the car.

I hope this makes it clear for you. Insist that your installer use this wiring harness

Could you please expand upon this point and tell me where i can get one for the amaze (online)? Is it a given that the accessories shops will have the compatible harness for the amaze?

I am not aware of an online source for this.

Generally ICE dealers quote minimal rates for ICE install labour (or offer it free) and make it up on product margins. If you show up with the products bought online and ask them to just install, they might not appreciate it. If you tell them that you need a wiring harness, and some wooden spacers (again insist on this for better sound) to install your equipment - and these two items you would need to source locally - this would sweeten the deal for them.

Do not let them start the install unless they have both these items in hand.

After researching for some time i have come to the conclusion that how the installation is done is critical for the sound quality as well as the health of the car. Keeping that in mind, i will be doing my ICE setup from Delhi (DRIVEN). Also , since i will be traveling so much for the install i have also decided to up my budget to around 25k to get a decent entry level setup.


I have seen some guys install a nexus 7 tablet with amplifier and speakers. Is it possible to do it and can it be done around that budget? What about the sound quality etc? Can i get it done at driven ?

it can be done, but its rather inconvenient to keep the tab in the car, and there will be some other minor inconveniences (for ex, you will not be able to change the volume without taking your eyes off the road) . Most people find the HU with Aux in + their smartphone route works just fine.

That is only what i meant, that though it may be car specific, it can be bought easily, i.e, you can purchase the stuff with the HU which i did.


You can buy a decent HU with bluetooth and connect the tab/ smartphone via that, but beware be it through aux or the bluetooth music quality is going to drop, its better to but cd's and play directly(which i do) or maybe get a HU which can play FLAC's off pendrives(if they exist).
