What I Did as a 'small town' music afficianado

Hi Gobble

I have owned the RWA. One thing it has is a lot of drive. I am surprised you found this aspect lacking. But again i have used it with the Rethms so maybe it was comfortable driving those.

Hi Moktan

Your post just gave me an idea. Maybe a group of 3-4 people can be each formed in Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai and Delhi. This group can audition equipment once a month for fellow members who do not have the access. This audition would be done in keeping with the music preferences of the member. Since people hear differently a group view would give the member a better idea.

I hereby volunteer my :valuable: service as a listening member whose opinions need not be counted:yahoo:

My one qualification is willingness to travel to any part of town as long as it's a Sat or Sun.

Well in my A/B comparison, my chinese GG clone paired with NAD 325 power section, the pre added more of it than the RWA. My speakers are not difficult to drive either @94dB efficiency and 95dB sensitivity.

@goble,

i would like to add.... people would trust ''big town afficcianados'' like you.

the reason being, i personally confess, i will fail a blind test when it comes to comparing two systems of similar DNA.

what ''small towners'' can do is have auditions of max no of setups they have access to and ask the ''big towners'' which one they liked the most along with their prefered listenings. this would give them a fairly good idea about the kind of sound signature to go for in other options.

Paritosh
We all would fail a blind test someday to our major embarrassment - its not about having some magical insight really. Its just that my typing fingers have the gift of the gab ... :rolleyes: I don't talk much in real life :)

Its not the same as being qualified to review and comment on all equipment under the sun like they do in Audio magazines. That takes exposure and listening sessions ... Your approach sounds good. Talking always helps make neural connections and provides eureka moments and ideas ... saving us from a potentially bad move.

Rahul hope you don't mind my digging into my inbox and retrieving gems like these ones....

Just occurred to me that I should ask - did you see the same hallucinations I saw and that you copied above? ;)

@goble,

May I add a little?

In my case, what happened was, I had auditioned JBL studio 1 with AVR131, Jamo S506 with Demon 1311, Wharfedale Obsidion with Marantz avr (can't remember the mod no) and Paradigm monitor 7, ELac FS57 and Polk TSi400 with Onkyo 8255: 2ch amp. I found Paradigms as clear winners as they had the sound signature that I desired (which forced me to let go off my initial obsession for setting g up a 5.1 system and rather settle down with a sterio setup.) And this sound signature was not even close to the other floor standers I heard. Now, if I had some "big towner" to help me out, I could end up with having them audition similar speakers in the similar price range (kef..... may be?) And a trained ear could tell me which of the two would be a better choice.

I agree. But that's what the forum is for too. No substitute for talking to someone with a rapport but the forum can help you find the person who has the right exposure and guidance. Make use of it.
