Hello Friends,

Music genres are beautifully diverse, each reflecting unique cultural, emotional, and creative expressions. Here's a glimpse of some popular genres and what they generally revolve around.
  1. Pop: Catchy melodies and relatable lyrics. Topics often include love, heartbreak, self-empowerment, and personal growth.
  2. Rock: Dynamic and energetic, rock often delves into rebellion, freedom, societal issues, or intense personal emotions.
  3. Hip-Hop/Rap: A genre rooted in rhythm and wordplay, it frequently addresses identity, struggles, aspirations, social justice, and community.
  4. Classical: Timeless compositions that evoke deep emotions, often without words, reflecting human experience, nature, or spirituality.
  5. Jazz: Improvisational and soulful, jazz explores themes of freedom, individuality, and the complexity of emotions.
  6. Blues: Known for its heartfelt and melancholic tone, it expresses themes like pain, perseverance, and life’s challenges.
  7. Country: Often tells stories about love, family, faith, and rural life, with heartfelt narratives.
  8. Electronic/Dance: Focuses on rhythm and energy, often celebrating life, escapism, and the joy of movement.
  9. Reggae: Rooted in Jamaican culture, it often promotes themes of peace, unity, resistance, and spirituality.
  10. Metal: A powerful and intense genre that can touch on existential themes, personal struggles, or dark and fantastical narratives.
My boat floated with Death metal when I was young, but now it has changed to Smooth Jazz and Blues.

My preferences revolve around Pop, Soft Rock, Gospel, Jazz Fusion, EDM, Country, Disco, R&B, Soul, Slow Jam, Instrumental, occasional Jazz/Classical, New age.

Nowadays I am mostly exploring retro Hindi and Tamil songs, rarely listen to English that dominated my 20s, 30s and 40s. Then was more into rock, jazz rock and a little bit of blues and lots of instrumental. Classical, hardcore jazz and other genres never floated my boat.

Pre 1980 Bollywood Songs from Talat, Mohd Rafi, Kishore, Mukesh, Asha, Lata, Suraiyya, Geeta Dutta, Sumant Kalyanpur, Hemant Kumar, Habib Wali Mohammed, Few songs by Noor Jahan, Shamshad Begum, Yesudas
Pre 1980 Rock
Jazz
Instrumental
Oldies
Country Music
For me many songs sink the boat - New songs, new singers, SPB, A.R Rehman, Hindustani/Carnatic classical, Rap, etc.
