Folks,
Here are pics of the speaker cable drawn thru the floor during constructn in my HT room. I dont know what these are. Have bought a denon 1911 and will be going for paradigm monitor 9s. Bainbridge cables have been recommended. What do I do?

Buried under the floor of your house? OMG!! You have discovered an audiophile treasure trove!! God only knows how many centuries it has been hidden there, :ohyeah:
Look further and deeper ... are there pure gold banana plugs? Exquisitely woven and braided silver interconnects? :licklips:
This could be the audiophile equivalent of the Padmanabhaswamy temple!! :ohyeah:

That looks like the local stuff you get anywhere on SP road. Its not high end, but it will do the job for a budget 5.1.

hi,
I am using similar looking cable as my speaker cable. I am happy with the result. The specifications are some 2 figures e.g. X/Y.
I tried unto solve my problem by starting a thread on this forum. But no responses.

What you can do is try to listen to sound before they are permanently installed.
Importantly, dont get worried just because you are not using some branded cable. If you like the sound, the cable is right. Many times these cables give equally good results at much lower cost. I compared a Bandridge coax cable to a cable from Indian company called 'Chetan'. Sonic results were same.

FYI,Someone on the forum is using Finolex cables for his set up:)

Looks like 22AWG speaker cable. This is normally used with HTIB's like philips or SONY. Now I am not sure if this can do the job well with denon and paradigm combo. But nothing wrong to try it out and see , ask the dealer to get some quality cables along and play with both the cables, you know the end result. :)

Yeeehaw!! And that someone is me!

Yes, like Kittu who has suggested below, go ahead and try out with some high-funda-soundscaping speaker cables and also compare these. If these sound the same, go ahead and use it.

Hi,
I was just wondering where to find you. Good you chipped in. Please tell me the exact Finolex cable that you are using. I am tempted to try them. Have you compared it to any other cable? What was your impression? Is your cable braided or it is a single thick copper cable?

@kittu.: to me these cable appear much thicker than 22G. But it is a visual impression after all.

My personal opnion.
Replace with atleast 18 swg or better.
what I observed is ,denon 2310 shuts off when connected to this kind of cable at -10db vol ( had hooked up 7.1 setup - cables burried under the floor). This happened twice untill now. So currently not using it. Only driving the floorstander(18swg) and seems good at this volume and higher.

Well, I am currently using Finolex 1.5 mm thick cables. This is braided cable. Though I am using 1.5 mm thick cables, I will be moving to 1.2mm or 1.3mm soon as my sound-engineer friend tells me this will be better for the amplifier.

Can you give me an idea of the ohm rating of the equipment you will be using and also the distance from the amp to the speakers?

Well, I have tested with very thin, "normal" off the roll speaker cable that you get from a local shop but the quality of the wire was what put me off. And you get very thin wires only. I have also tested with some high end cable (think it was Monster or something) borrowed from a friend. No difference from my Finolex.

Hi,

I am using Marantz amplifierpm 6002 rated at 45w/ch fo 8 ohm and 60w/ch for 4 ohm. My spekers are 4 ohm and distance of each speaker from amp is about 4 feet.

Somehow I feel that it is not related with the cable gauge. The cable must have been damaged somewhere and getting short circuited. You can try another cable of same gauge which is not laid underground.

Another place to check is whether any loose and open metallic part of the cable is touching the body of the AVR.

From my calculations, I see that you will need to use 16 gauge wire. This is approx 1.29 mm diameter wire. This is what I will also be moving to. I am just being a bit caught up with other work but will be doing so soon.

Right now, it is just 1.5 mm Finolex cable.

To the OP - check if the cable gets attracted to a magnet.
My locally bought cable was made with some free oxygen and iron in it :-)

Wow, that's a thought! Will do.
Does that mean the branded ones contain copper or silver??

That is a good idea. The dealer actually said that these wires were probably local, may sound good initially, will get "oxidized" (?) with time and sound quality will "deteriorate over time"........

Hi,

Not only speaker wire,I recently bought some tag boards for an amp I am restoring/rebuilding and found that the boards were magnetic.

Well that takes care of vibrations and damping then ... just suspend two powerful magnets from the ceiling and let your amp float :D :ohyeah:

Couldn't resist that one ... sorry ;)

I think Gobble can definitely direct a horror cum comedy movie. :D. First there were those hanging autorickshaws with sweety amp playing some music by DJ Bablu autowala
in that Bose audition experiences in CNUs thread and now a floating amp here.
