Hello All,

I will be in Malaysia next week and am looking to buy some electronics while there.

I have no particular items on my shopping list yet but a DSLR, AVR, CDP, BDP, etc would all be good to have.

I am looking for your ideas on what would be great bargains in Malaysia. It would be great if could help me with any trusted shops that you are aware of in KL and Penang.

Cheers.

Prabhu,

The best place for variety will be Low Yat plaza in KL. It is the biggest electronics mall in Malaysia. However, my experience was disappointing from a hi-fi perspective particularly for speakers. I did not see many shops selling hi-fi speakers. Can't say the same for amps and that is for you to discover. However, tons of shops selling cameras and phones.

My advise would be look for stuff which is typically not available in India as the prices were not too great. They were pretty much the same rate as in India (for stuff available in India too).

Low Yat is very close to all the other malls in the area (Times Square etc) so you can cover whole of the area on foot. Don't bother hunting for hi-fi stuff in KLCC (under Petronas).

For electronics shopping, Thailand is the place to go :)

Cheers

prabhu you are better off buying stuff here in India when it comes to electronics. Low Yat plaza in Jalan Bukit Bintang has a lot of stores selling electronic stuff, but my recommendation is stay away. The prices are almost the same as in India or even a tad bit more expensive.

Use that money and buy stuff in India, not that these chaps in Low Yat offer the best deals. Ideally if I were you, I would simply go and spend some time seeing Langkawi and take a flight back home. Shopping for electronics isn't something I would be doing in Malaysia at-least.

Hi Prabhu,
Undoubtedly India is best for shopping now for electronics ...but the craze of buying electronics and shopping from Malaysia has a different fun ..
Malaysia is fast catching up, and Malaysian shopping guides now tout the place as a key destination for buying electronic goods.
if you want cheap electronic goods, you can go to Low Yatt Plaza. there, you can find all sorts of things.
The night markets or pasar malam are where you can get really cheap non original goods. Try Petaling Street in Kl for a taste of imitation goods!!,also try Johor Bahru..
Hire some goog travel agency like i did when i first traveled to Malaysia through Yatra travel company..they will suggest you and will alwaz be ready to help you about famous places to visit..Have a joyful Yatra

Hi Prabhu,

If you are keen on Audio stuff and have a day or two to spare try to take a stop over in Singapore. You can come from KL to Singapore by road. It's only 5-6 hrs by luxury executive coaches.

Adelphi Mall at City Hall ( MRT) is the place to go for hi end audio gear. Let me know if you need any aadditional info or assitance.

IMO TVs are cheaper than any other country (I don't know about HK or Thai).

You have to buy from Best Denky which is located in Third floor in Petronas towers. Cause most of the places where I saw the TVs,all were having Best Denky's sticker at the back. Later I came to know they are the stockist for Sony TVs in Malaysia.

To give an example I bought Sony 46" EX520 last year on launch of this model. It costed me around 38K INR. at the same period it was costlier by at the least 5K in other countries.
