With audio cd playback which is the best audiophile head unit so far on market?

Super HU - Not Available. It was my 1st choice - great VFM imho.
Sad. Would have saved 10K at least;;;

I was forced to buy the Pioneer PRS 80.
Too Exp @ 24/- K but there were not many options that had TA on it [Time Alignment]
DEH-80PRS - CD Receiver with 3-Way Active Crossover Network, Auto EQ, and Auto Time Alignment | Pioneer Electronics USA

I am lucky to have bought what probably was the last piece from snapdeal. :yahoo:
I was hunting for this unit patiently for a long time. Earlier ordered from homeshop18 and it was cancelled due to no stock.

Yes you are right. This is great VFM. It sounds so good. Yet to play around with TA.

But for you, I do not think 80 PRS is too expensive :D (though I think people have bought it at 20K I guess) It is a fantastic HU and nobody ever regretted buying it.

@ Alby
Try to increase your budget and hunt for this HU (JVC KD-R90BT) online/ locally. It may be worth the struggle. If not you may go with JVC-KD R736 BT. Main differences are Burr Brown DAC, more EQ/DSP, Time Alignment.

I have the older DEH P80RS...great sounding HU but lacks in advanced connectivity we need these days...USB and iPod...use the Pio USB adapter along with it, solves my purpose but would have loved something with better connectivity and control. But I'd give up on these if I can lay my hands on an Eclipse...

OP, you can check out if you get Alpine 9887, Kenwood 8016 or Alpine 117...might be a couple of thousand over your budget though...

Um, people recommending the r90, read his post! he wants CD playback!

If that's the case, buy any alpine that fits into your budget :)

Do you mean to say JVC R90 cannot play CDs? :confused:
I am playing only CDs since I bought it.

oh, my mistake!

I had thought it was the top of the line for for the X30, X40, X50 series of CD less media recievers.

Guess not - the 80 and the 90 have cd playback

All said;
I have been an Alpine person for the past 1 + decade.
However, it is difficult to find a HU that has USB + Time Alignment & top quality DAC & no Amplification [in-built] from Alpine.
Sad.
They really made nice HU's
Is Eclipse still around ?
Where can I buy them ? Is the company still making HU's ?

Thanks every one..
@ Santy, I m interested in that JVC, as the DAC's of others are mostly unknown.. Let me see if I can get it from chennai. Will post my updates soon
