Hi guys,
I had finalised buying the Panasonic P42U30 Plasma when I saw the LG Cinema 3d LW5700 @ HomeStore for 84k and I just fell in love with the clarity. My mind now shifted to the LEDs which to this time I had totally ignored thinking that they were overpriced and not worth the money.
Now I have some queries which I am not able to resolve even after a lot of googling and searching forums.
1. I like to watch movies in total darkness. Will having a LED affect the darkness factor? I agree Plasmas are the best for perfect blacks, but are LEDs that bad in dark?
2. The video content that we see in the store for LEDs, can I get the same picture quality with bluray discs? or is it some other format. If that is bluray, then I would say that the picture quality is totally amazing.
3. Last but not the least,I don't mind spending upto a budget of 85k for 42" LED TVs. i will be taking demos this sunday. Can you guys suggest me some models that I should consider while going to the showrooms. 85k is the max i can spend, but if I can get in lesser price, I don't mind. :)
Please help. i just want to be sure that I do not miss out on the LED clarity after buying a Plasma. I am sure about the Plasma model but want to explore LEDs as well.
TIA. :)

1. You should never watch TV in total darkness. LED will be too bright in near dark.

2. Yes. You will get same clarity. But note that the demo disk shownb in stores shows some town in Medeterranean, where sky is azure blue, brightly painted houses, vivid colours, etc. That disc is meant to accentuate the TV. Movies on the other hand may not be so vivid. For example, all later Harry Potter movies have been "artifically masked" to show dark colors - to suit the mood. But definitely you will get the same clarity - at least from originals.

3. The LG Cinema 3D models also impressed me. Try to go for the 46" models if you can afford it. No size is too big for movies. Obviously the budget will dictate. But it is not as if you are going to change TV every 2-3 years.

You should never watch TV in total darkness.

Was this meant for all TVs or specifically for LEDs? :)
I am looking at 42" coz the rooms in which I would be keeping the TV would keep on changing as I continue to live in rented houses. I don't wanna end up in a situation where the screen size is really big. I have checked out the distance-screen size comparisons. I would at least have a 8 ft distance.

I checked out the PQ for movie scenes on the Cinema3D series. They looked amazing. Are there any other models in the budget of 85k in other brands that I can consder. i need to finalize the model by mid of next week. Dying to see a BRay movie on a big screen.

I believe the only major issue would be then watching the movies in total darkness, which I have loved till now as it gives a movie hall kinda feeling. Alas, no showroom would be giving me a demo in total darkness to experience the difficulties and advantages of plasma and LEDs.
May be some sort of Ambient lighting can do the trick.

thanks buddy, ill check the price at Croma then... I just want to know about the main models in my budget. Im not that into 3D as already there is very less 3D content available, but I just want to check out all major models to avoid any worries later on about a model that I might have missed.
Will check this out surely.

Check that model , also see if you can compare the samsung d series leds with LG LW series.

Went for a full fledged search and i think i would prefer LEDs more than Plasma.
Dere was tough competition between LG and Samsung. I was about to finalise LG cinema 3d but when i connected my hard disc, it could not support audio on one of my mkv files. the same file played smoothly on samsung series 5.
Thing is ill have to go for a 40" model than 42" as samsung does not have a 42" model.
Now tell me, which one is better?
samsung series 5
UA40D5000 or UA40D5500
I know the price for 5000, which would finalize to around 63.4k after discounts and a dish tv hd connection free.
Will check about 5500 in a few days.
LG missed out only because it failed to play audio on one of my mkv files. I had my share of a lil doubt there.
Ne suggestions between D5000 and D5500?

Do not give much importance to AV playing formats, but go for the one which offers you best picture quality. Media streaming devices are becoming cheaper day by day , keep that feature as secondary and go for the best picture quality with deep blacks and vivid colors that TV can offer you.

If you buy a tv with VA panel like sony/samsung or a local dimming tv like the Lg 8500.The blacks will be more then good enough,it may be a shade brighter then the best of the plasma.

You can have a look at the samsung series 6 LED-lcd /Sony EX720 and Lg 8500.

Guys,
I have finalized Samsung UA40D5500 as my first LED TV. I liked the picture quality and might buy the Samsung C5500 Blu Ray player also along with it.
I just have one doubt. I have not been able to see the TV in a dark room (not possible in a showroom)
Can someone who has a LED tell me how bad does a LED get in a dark room? I don't want to compare its PQ with Plasmas, but I just want to know if its that bad that I would not like my experience in a dark room? No comparisons with Plasmas as I know they are the best in this regard.
Thanks for the help. :)

I would be purchasing the TV this weekend itself...Getting it at a good price online. Can wait for 5-6 extra days if Im getting a good discount. Can you please just clarify my last doubt about how bad LEDs are in dark rooms? I believe they would be watchable, but someone's review on this aspect would be motivating enuf for me... :)

Your LED TV will appear very bright in a darkish room. You will have to lower the brightness a little.
Dats it... I was confused over how bad this could be, on reading online articles that suggested Plasmas over LEDs for this purpose.
If this is adjustable, then Im going for LED...Samsung, here I come....
I don't mind adjusting the settings according to light in the room.
