I think some of it is owed to "the 40 year old virgin".
The same way - Comedy Central's - “No one talks about the studies that show that bad music makes people violent, but listening to Nickelback makes me want to kill Nickelback” aided the hate against Nickelback.

The backlash stems from their pop shift post-2011, seen as overproduced "corporate" music chasing trends like EDM and collaborations, sidelining band chemistry for Chris Martin-led hits. Critics call lyrics superficial or pretentious for stadium sing-alongs. Early works such as Parachutes (2000) and A Rush of Blood to the Head (2002) received strong critical acclaim. They were known for their melodic, indie rock blending acoustic guitars, piano hooks, and moody lyrics. Those are the only 2 albums which I listen to...once in a while. Once a year probably.
Haven’t heard the albums you mention. I will give them a listen and reassess. Thanks

It was all about a new sound. Coldplay lyrics are shit even for the older albums. The music is all about "crafting an enveloping sound" with some random poetry. No message and the music does not stand for anything in particular. Even metal has better lyrics. "The scientist" was a big hit among the girls. One of my ex girlfriends was addicted to that song.

Cos they are sellouts - their first two records are eminently listenable. Everything after is garbage produced by a committee.
