how YT playing on 4k when mbl displays r 2k?

It may not be played as native 4k. Just like in projectors where 1080p projector supports 4k videos using pixel shift technology. For example my iPhonexr isn’t 2k but I have seen 4k videos played as 2k. I haven’t given much thought into this so May not be able to give u a clear explanation

You can play 8k videos or 144p videos on a 1080p screen on your laptop. I don't see why that should be a limitation. It will just be downscaled or upscaled to fit the display's resolution by the scaler later on.
