So I recently "upgraded" from a 43" FullHD Vu non-smart TV (connected to Tata Play Binge+ STB) to a 55" Vu 4k TV running Google TV, and was shocked to find out that content in Prime Video or Netflix (played on the TV's app) could not be zoomed - the option is greyed out in the menu. Even changing overscan is not possible ! In my older TV it was possible to Zoom 1 level into the picture (Prime/Netflix content via HDMI cable) which would remove the black bars at the top and bottom by more than half, while still retaining the aspect ratio.
Later I read that this is due to Netflix/Prime 'locking' the aspect ratio for copyright or other reasons and its done in all Smart TVs (including WebOS/Tizen). That was a bummer for me as we spend considerable money on a new TV only to have 20% of the screen wasted in black bars 🤦‍♂️

So my question is, has anyone been able to apply a zoom mode on Prime/Netflix app running on any Smart TV to reduce/eliminate the black bars which are visible when watching most movies ? Any hack, such as getting into Developer mode or something ?

My new TV does enable the Zoom setting when watching Prime/Netflix on the Binge+ STB via HDMI, however this Vu TV has only a single Zoom mode, which just stretches the image vertically to fill the screen rather than zooming in and cropping the edges while retaining aspect ratio. And it doesn't help that the Binge+ supports only max 1080p (no 4k or HDR10) on Prime even though its a 4k box !
